Totally uninteresting. The nose promises a lot of things that cant be deliver by its "grainy" palate and its non-existent finish. Actually its story is a nice one (maybe the best thing of this whisky), Asyla is the plural of Asylum. What Compass box claims to be doing here is to create a "everyday" "sunday afternoon" whisky. They might just deliver that by making a very light super delicate whisky. Bottled at 40%abv, pale straw color. On the nose is fairly nice. Very sweet and fruity. Creamy very creamy vanilla, Milk white chocolate. Waving the glencairn and evaporating the dram a little bit strips de vanilla notes to enter the citric fruit notes: Lemon peel and cheap lemon freshener for cars. Coffee notes also and Orange note. On the palate, it is overly influenced by the grain whisky. Water is the first flavor (or is that not a flavor?) Spicy ginger, Very light dram. Grassy grain slightly cream. Much too light. It doesn't have the character or the personality to even be called a whisky. Aftertaste is non-existing. There is a very very very very very slight dim spice but it is nothing. I didn't pour water into it as it says in the compass box website, i now believe that one drop would turn it into simple water. Overall my score system was benevolent with it because of a good nose, 56 over 100, and i am not been harsh here.

My high scores streak is over. A very un-enjoyable whisky, not the kind of sweet you hope in a dram. a cinnamon shot is not something pleasant for me. Bottled at 40%abv, with a russetmuscat color. On the nose is sweet but and not that bad but it is an omen of what you are going to get on the palate. Nosing notes i found: strong alcohol note for a 40%abv. Liquorice, brown sugar, toffee and cinnamon. On the palate is just lame. Liquorice, Cinnamon, Mild spicyness, Pine or some herb, Not pleasant at all seems like those whisky fire editions (like jack daniel's fire), Young oak. Finish is short and way too sweet to be good, so it is bad. Overall i give this a very generous 59 over a 100 and i really think of this as a 2.5 over 5, but my scoring system tells me 2.9. Not recommended at all.

My first Bourbon, didn't like it. On the nose you get acetone, oakyness and a little smoke. On the palate is very hot. Not sweet at all, there are some wine-raising notes there somewhere. Very hoy finish, tends to be alike some Usa whiskeys, where you can find wine-grapes-raising notes on the palate and in the nose but totally inferior. Worst whisky so far

Jack Daniel's Tennessee Fire
Herbal/Spice Liqueurs — Tennessee, USA
Reviewed February 24, 2020 (edited March 31, 2020)1.0 and i am very mercyful here. This is not whiskey, rather a cinnamon liquor. Bottled at 35%abv, burnished color. On the nose, Cinnamon. Like a Cinnamon roll. Makes your nose tickle. You then say, this might be something worth my while. Nothing else appears on the nose. On the palate is horrible. Is like a taking a spoon of cinnamon syrup, feels like it is giving you diabetes in that moment. Thick bodied it "palls" you. (i looked up for the word "pall", since i didn't know how to say "empalagar" in english)(what i meant was: it is too sweet that your mouth breaks down). The aftertaste is long and sugary, too horrible, like a spoon full of sugar. I dont know if some drinks this, i had to toss it away, may God have mercy on the souls that made this "whiskey". -
Worldwide known as the worst whisky in the world, Fujikai 10yo is a bad dram, but not as near as the disgusting thing i have heard. Countless reviews put this one as something unbearable. It is bad, but because it has no flavor at all, but nothing really off-putting. Bottled at 43%abv, only 8808 bottles were ever made. On the nose, it is weird. I have seen people talk about it like the aroma has a diesel /kerosene profile, but for me it was: Humid Clothes, wet socks, it feels like it tries somehow to be fruity, but fails and delivers a gasoline note. On the palate, it is nothing. It has no flavor. I don't know if the bar where i had it threw water on it, but it would make sense because it tastes like water, it has no flavor. Aftertaste is also very thin. Its like it tries to be peppery in some way, but it fails to do so. Overall it is not as bad as i thought, it really has no flavor and that is why it is bad. I believe that i have seen to many bad reviews and i expected it to be worse than what it really is. 20 over 100 and maybe i am been too good here. Avoid it.

Oh my god, this one must be a dud. It cant be THAT bad. It is plain water. I hope this was a bad batch, because this goes around for $520, and it would definitively be a shame if you spend this much money and get this "nothingness" of a dram. Bottled at 40%abv. On the nose, sparkling water, soda water cookies, malty, foam, acetone. Nothing at all. On the palate, its oaky i guess, WATER, nothing and chocolate. Yes, nothing is a note here. Lol. Zero aftertaste. Ok... the score for this is.... 34 over 100. And, i think i gave it a high score. Run. Run from it.

Arran Amarone Cask Finish Single Malt
Single Malt — Islands, Scotland
Reviewed February 24, 2020 (edited April 20, 2022)This is the review for the 55%abv expression, which i have to say is one of the most tropical whiskies i have ever had. On the nose, Starfruits, heathery peat, citric notes like fresh oranges and cigarrettes. On the palate, it is very smooth for 55%abv. Oranges, apricots, mango, tropical fruits. Pineapple, a very mild spiciness. A slight vanilla note. Nice. Aftertaste has a very soft peatiness, some liquorice and herbal spiciness. Very pleasant. Overall i believe this to be a very nice dram, so enjoyable. 91 over 100 is a proper score for it. -
I really wasn't prepared enough for Arran when i tasted the 14yo and i reviewed it with a low score then. This Arran 18yo is absolutely amazing and brings my faith back to this brand. On the nose is perfect. Blackberry marmalade, COTTON CANDY (wow), Cherry, Honey; just Wonderful. On the palate, a Honey note. Very Powerful dram as the 14yo, Peppery, tongue makes that "Crazy Dips feeling", Prunes, Oakyness, very Complex. Finish id strong and full of character with ginger notes. Beautifully balanced. Overall i give this recommended beauty a 93 over 100.

The Ardmore 20 years Vintage 1996
Single Malt — Highland , Scotland
Reviewed February 24, 2020 (edited October 8, 2020)A 20yo Ardmore, one of the finest and most "hipsters" distilleries out there. I don't think this one is too famous, bit every little thing i have tasted from them is great. This 1996 vintage, 20yo whisky is no exception to that rule. Bottled at 49.3%abv, with a solid burnished gold color. On the nose, it is impressive. Right away you get a Grassy Peat, the kind of peat from burning Moss. Smoky. Under that smoke there is a lot of other aroma notes: Pineapple juice, tropical fruits, yellow super fresh oranges. It feels strange to have tropical fruits on an Ardmore. Peat overpower the rest of the aroma notes, not in a bad way. Powerful alcohol note but not unpleasant. Burnt pineapple, dulce de leche, lemon and peaches. After a couple lf sips it releases a thick chocolate, dry brown cake aroma. On the palate is not the best, maybe it is a little watery. Citric/tropical, lime, pineapple, dry chocolate cake. What happens on the nose, is replicated on the palate. Aftertaste is delicious. Peat reveals itself as ashes, smoke. Very pleasant and very balanced. Overall this is a very good whisky, super recommended, if you can grab a bottle of this stuff, you wont regret it. 92 over 100.
