Wild Turkey Rare Breed Barrel Proof Rye
Rye — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed October 19, 2020 (edited November 6, 2020)It’s ok! It’s hot, it’s spicy, it’s peppery, and it’s gone in a flash. As some others have said, “funky, musty, pepper, and apple”. I think need to let it open up more, but all in all - it’s good. It’s a little rough around the edges though like a few Rare Breed expressions were at neck pour. I wish it was a bit more mature and like the Cornerstone, but hey - it’s good as it sits. -
Wild Turkey Master's Keep Bottled in Bond 17 Year
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed October 19, 2020 (edited December 25, 2020)Rated this one really high, on purpose. One of the best Turkey products I’ve had to date. It’s 101 turned up to 101%. Cherry dusty oaky goodness. If I could find a backup I’d pay what I paid again. -
Wild Turkey Master's Keep Cornerstone Rye
Rye — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed October 19, 2020 (edited November 11, 2021)Has to be one of my favorite ryes of all time. The price hurts, the flavor packs. Turkey dust and rye spice along with more softer buttery notes, it’s a really good rye. Oh, and the oak. It slaps. I wish Rare Breed Rye would mellow the heck out and get on this level. -
Old Forester Single Barrel Bourbon Barrel Strength
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed October 19, 2020 (edited December 29, 2020)Ditching the ol “if I see a Knob Creek 15yr pick grab one” and going for these instead. Bit more $ ($70), bit more worth it palette and proof wise. Woodmans was 130-something proof, and almost as good as the pours of OFBB I’ve had to date. If not better than. Needs time to open, but it’s basically vanilla caramel covered popcorn, with a tad of chocolate covered cherries at the end. Buttery oily mouthfeel. Oak as well. Such a fantastic, complex pour. -
High West A Midwinter Night's Dram
Rye — (bottled in) Utah, USA
Reviewed October 19, 2020 (edited November 19, 2020)Act 7 - much better than 6. In fact, everything I wanted 6 to be (like 5). Still has a bit more muted flavors until the second half of the bottle. Closed it out in Door County around the fire. -
High West A Midwinter Night's Dram Act 5 (All Scenes)
Rye — (bottled in) Utah, USA
Reviewed October 19, 2020Giving it time to open up, this has been the best expression of this bottling to date (2020). Neck pour had lots of vermouth...but. As it opens, loads of dark fruit and figs, followed by rye, clove, and allspice. Amazing. -
High West A Midwinter Night's Dram Act 6 (All Scenes)
Rye — (bottled in) Utah, USA
Reviewed October 19, 2020 (edited January 18, 2021)Compared to other years this one was just...lacking “Christmas” in it. Bit hot to start and fizzled out without the sweet fig and allspice hanging out like other years.
