Redbreast 12 Year Cask Strength

Reviewed January 20, 2016 (edited August 29, 2017)I love that this is the actual 12 yr at cask strength and didn't go the NAS route for cask strength, ala Abunadh or many other CS's. Personally this is a bit hot for me but diluting down to like 45-50% is perfect, as the regular 12yr needs a little more kick. RB is such a great balance of sweet, spice, wood, sherry, and creamy. I have a hard time imagining a better Irish whiskey. -

Reviewed January 17, 2016 (edited April 24, 2018)I dare say that the nose and the finish are what really shine here, on the palate is basically tastes like a lighter version of the 12. the nose is rich with caramel, dark fruits, and spice, while the finish has a balance of dark sugar and smoke (albeit not peaty in the slightest). Wonderful stuff. -
Benromach Peat Smoke 2005
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed January 16, 2016 (edited June 4, 2016)(2004 edition). Lovely, a balanced smoky orange chocolate treat. Definitely a nice way to start a peaty evening before moving on to Ardbeg or Lagavulin. [After several drams, my opinion shifted some, it seems a bit feminine for peat, ultimately unsatisfying. When I had Amrut Peated, I found a similar taste profile but with the volume turned up 3 notches).
