Glenfiddich Project XX
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed August 25, 2020 (edited November 9, 2020)The higher alcohol content is immediately noticeable; I have to take this whiskey on ice or with some water to tone it down. Strong oak, maybe a touch of sweetness. Nothing I dislike, such as peat or smoke. It's okay but I don't like the higher ABV and I don't find anything else really disttinctive about it, especially for the price.99.95 CAD per Bottle -
Method and Madness Single Grain Finished in Virgin Spanish Oak Casks
Single Grain — Ireland
Reviewed June 16, 2020Nice sweet oakiness, but a bit too much alcohol burn. Would like it a bit smoother for the price.64.95 CAD per Bottle -
Jack Daniel's Tennessee Honey
Other Liqueurs — Tennessee, USA
Reviewed May 3, 2020 (edited October 29, 2020)I would call this a "liqueur whiskey". You can smell the honey even before you taste it, and it feels almost syrupy in your mouth. Definitely sweet, though the sweetness takes away from the alcohol burn. There isn't much complexity to this whiskey; you're buying it for the honey flavour. Easy to enjoy neat or on ice, or certainly if you've got some cocktail in mind. But I can imagine that whiskey "purists" wouldn't waste their time or money on this variant (similar to those who don't like flavoured coffee). [Note the price I've given is for a half bottle, 375 mL.)17.95 USD per Bottle -
They've peated it, all right. First thing that hits your nose; very hard to pick up anything else. I don't get any of the sherry finish they mention. A splash of water dampens the alcohol burn and I get the familiar oak taste. Not much else. It's okay but not really enjoyable on its own. Received as a gift but I've given the standard retail price.74.95 CAD per Bottle

Once you get past the alcohol, the first note I get on the nose is vanilla, and the first tasting note is oak. It has a definite alcohol burn. Not a sweet whiskey, nor strong floral or fruity notes. But no peat or smokiness whatsoever, which is fine by me. On the finish, there's not much taste left in the mouth after swallowing; the burn fades to blank. It's okay, but there are other whiskies I've enjoyed more.49.5 CAD per Bottle

Basil Hayden's Caribbean Reserve Rye (Discontinued)
Rye — Multiple Countries
Reviewed January 9, 2020The tasting notes on the bottle talk about the sweetness that comes from the "subtle touch of rum". This is true: it is a darker and sweeter whiskey than usual. No burn, and a nice oakiness. Easy to enjoy it neat, perhaps as a "dessert whiskey".60.55 CAD per Bottle
