There's definitely a sweetness coming from the wine and sherry casks. Also woodiness though not the strong oak that comes with many other whiskies. I found it benefits from either a splash of water or maybe an ice cube just to dial it down a notch. It's a nice easy sipping whisky.58.75 CAD per Bottle

I like this one. A few drops of water cooled it off enough to allow the subtler tastes to come through. It's a darker whisky presumably due to the sherry cask. It has a rich full taste, with slight sweetness. I also get a hint of peat or smoke, which I normally avoid, but in this case it's not dominant. The label is slightly different: It's Three Wood but in a gold font on a dark green background, with "Rich and Elegant" below it. I'm assuming it's the same variant.

I don't catch a lot of the tasting notes from the reviewer, but I do think it is relatively sweet. I also notice the "toast" aspect -- not quite smoky, definitely not peaty, but a slight burnt element. Interestingly, I do not get the oakiness that I thought would accompany a whiskey aged in charred oak barrels. Overall, I like it but I don't love it.69.95 CAD per Bottle

Gibson's Finest Rare 12 Year
Canadian — Ontario , Canada
Reviewed July 28, 2021 (edited November 3, 2023)[Price is for a half bottle, 375 mL] Good but not outstanding. I get the usual high notes of oak and vanilla, with maybe some honey or something sweet. Not a "heavy" whiskey and no smoke or peat. Very smooth to drink esp. with some ice and a splash of water -- very easy to over-dilute it though so go easy on the water.19.95 CAD per Bottle -
I noticed the rum right away in how it changed the tasting notes of the typical whiskey. There's more of a caramel sweetness to this, and not the usual vanilla + oak that seems to go with most whiskies I try. It's a nice sipping whiskey though I found it does better with an ice cube and a few drops of water. Net, I like it but I've had other rum or Caribbean inspired whiskies I preferred.49.95 CAD per Bottle

I get oak and vanilla taste notes. It starts off sweet but there's almost a stony, metallic note that comes up from behind and cancels the sweetness. This was a gift from a friend who had it in his bar for a while, so perhaps it wasn't stored in the proper conditions. It's okay but I don't enjoy this one straight; I think it will be used for whisky sours and the like.

I try not to read the flavour profile until after I've put together my thoughts, but I definitely agree with it being spicy. I needed to taste it with an ice cube and a splash of water to tone it down enough to get at the flavours. Sweetness for sure, and oak, but I don't get vanilla from it. There is a darker "rummy" component that I think comes from the bourbon barrels. It would probably work well in mixed drinks where you want the whiskey to deliver a lot of the "punch" in the final taste.39.85 CAD per Bottle

Charred oak hits first, followed by a touch of sweetness though not as much as some other whiskies. It's not smoky or peaty though. I don't get any vanilla either, which is often associated with Irish whiskies. I'm not a bourbon drinker but there's another distinct flavour note that I think is due to the aging in bourbon barrels. It's not my favourite Irish whiskey but it's not bad for the price.37.95 CAD per Bottle

Lohin McKinnon Chocolate Malt Single Malt Whisky
Single Malt — British Columbia, Canada
Reviewed October 21, 2020For a "chocolate malt" whisky, it is not very sweet. I do taste a note of cocoa but this is by no means a dessert whisky. There's a bit of oak and vanilla, and no smoke or peat; it's almost bland once you give it a splash of water. It's okay, but I feel like the "chocolate" on the label is misleading because overall it doesn't contribute much to the tasting, and there's not a lot else to make up for it. There are other whiskies I would go back to before this.59.95 CAD per Bottle
