Great depth and complexity and more fruited than past you're seated BenRiach whiskeys that I've tried. This was very heavy on the plum and spice side with decent amount of smoke and then a noticeable, but underwhelming, amount of peat. Overall I think this is a very decent whiskey that could benefit from a bit more peat to kick it over the top and balance out the fruit.

Mars Komagatake Single Malt Limited Edition 2020
Single Malt — Nagano, Japan
Reviewed March 7, 2021 (edited January 3, 2022)The 2019 Limited Edition (not 2020) instantly reminded me of both Compass Box Juevenilles and Springbank Green. Young, bright, citrussy, with lots of green apple and subtle sweeter fruit notes. Didn't get the cocoa and prune as much. But did get some Japanese soft malt "rounding" notes that put this over the top. A lovely whiskey.. The 2020 was, IMO, not nearly as satisfying as the 2019. Big change in profile with a lot of the bright citrus notes hammered over with wood. 2019 over 2020 all day every day. -
Macallan Edition No. 6
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed December 24, 2020 (edited July 26, 2022)Really enjoyed this. Full of sweet, dark fruit like raisons, dark cherry and plum. Lots of depth and complexity for the buck. Big finish and a great value. Went to find a second bottle and all gone. So far, one of the best of the Edition line that I've tried. And a must purchase if you're a fan of the series and lucky enough to stumble across it on the shelf. -
Òrdha Meas 2003 13 Year Crafted Blend (Murray McDavid)
Blended — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed December 24, 2020Getting some of the promised smoke although it's less peat and sweet and more towards sulphur. Luckily the sulphuric notes are subtle and the green apple and pineapple have enough sweetness to stand up and pull this through. Was hoping for a Longrow 18 like experience based on description. And think the sulphur might be a problem for some. But at 1/4 of the cost of Longrow, its smooth and fruity and a good value. -
First off, the 15 is everything I love about Whistlepig and probably a lot of what the haters hate ($$$). But I will say that I think the 15 is a great value when compared to the 18. The 15 has so much intensity, complexity and a killer finish. Perhaps 12 is the best overall value. But the 15 is the 12 on flavor steroids in all the best ways. If you like Whistlepig and want to splurge, my recommendation is to get two 15s over the one 18 and tell yourself you got the second one free. Looking forward to my next dram.

Love the fruit and sherry nose. Initial mouthfeel is pleasant. But the heat builds quickly and alchohol overpowers taste and finish. Really struggled with this as it is both fruity and complex but oh so rough when compared to the comparable fruit and complexity of Longrow 18 which I adore. Tried diluting but the heat kept ruining the taste and finish. Perhaps an older expression would fare better. Will definitly keep on radar and try different expressions if the chance presents itself.

Kilchoman Original Cask Strength (2014 Release)
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed April 26, 2020A bit heated, but then this could be expected at cask strength and price point. Lots of nice fruit and some smoke. Decent body and acceptble finish for price point. I got honey, some apple and pear notes along with the malt and smoke. Would recommend for those wanting to try a Kilchoman whiskey although I might suggest a wee bit of water.
