Old Elk Single Barrel Wheated Bourbon
Bourbon — (bottled in) Colorado, USA
Reviewed May 21, 2021 (edited August 3, 2021)One of the best noses I have experienced. 5 star if it were just the nose. Unfortunately, that was the peak of the experience. Palate was good (4 star ish). Finish was rather weak, especially given proof. Something like Larceny has as good or better finish compared to this which is 3x the cost.80.0 USD per Bottle -
Ardbeg 10 with more depth. Sweeter. Longer finish. More complex. Just tried Laphroaig Lore; hard not to compare the two as the peak of their respective non-ultra aged lineup. This was younger and somehow thinner despite a higher ABV. Worth the upcharge from Ardbeg 10. Lore is a bit more expensive; this fits nicely between the two. Not blown away as I was hoping as an Ardbeg fan, but very good nonetheless.65.0 USD per Bottle

So good. My favorite whiskey so far. Peat is slightly toned down from some Laphroaig expressions, but amped up richness and complexity. Notes from distiller expert seemed to match my experience. Long finish, rich, complex, slightly sweet, creamy. Just amazing. Perfect proof. Some nice spice and a slightly warm finish all the way down. Let's you know you are drinking, without being too hot. Can't say enough good things.100.0 USD per Bottle

Compass Box The Peat Monster
Blended Malt — Scotland
Reviewed April 7, 2021 (edited February 8, 2022)Surprised by how good it is. Peat is by no means overwhelming - much lighter than Laphroaig but heavier than Ardmore Legacy. Rather similar to a Talisker, but may have a bit more going on. Not quite as deep though. At $60 I'm not sure that its a staple, but happy with purchase. Neck pour; looking forward to exploring further.60.0 USD per Bottle -
Good intro to peat. For $30 its a decent everyday whiskey. Not much going on in either the palate or finish, but still enjoyable. Finish is surprisingly long (though not memorable) for the price point. Struggling with what to compare it to as it may be the cheapest single malt I have tried. Much better than Glenfiddich 12. On even ground with Costco's Kirkland 12 Year, which is slightly cheaper.30.0 USD per Bottle

Tennessee Whiskey — Tennessee, USA

Barrell Bourbon Batch 025
Bourbon — (bottled in) Kentucky, USA
Reviewed March 7, 2021 (edited September 2, 2022)Very nice. Not quite as complex or contemplative as I was hoping. Flavors were all great, but not quite as many notes as I was expecting. Very easy to drink. Could tell that there was wheat and rye, but not able to pick out individual flavors too much. May have to revisit and edit. Not upset about the purchase, but not racing to buy a backup bottle either.75.0 USD per Bottle -
Best value in peated scotch? At $42 this is hard to beat. More spice and tongue tingling than 10 year, smoke doesn't last quite as long either. But... it's rather good. The palate may have just a bit more going on than the 10 year. Not in love with it like some of the nice peaty stuff at twice the price, but have certainly paid more for others that I liked less.42.0 USD per Bottle
