Russell's Reserve Single Barrel Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed February 3, 2016 (edited April 24, 2018)Let it breathe. Wanted to try it neat but was worried about the 55% ABV. Poured 2 fingers and let is sit for about 5 minutes. Really liked the result - smooth but with a spicy finish that makes you want the next sip, and I do mean sip, because it is 110 proof. Sweet, with a caramel maybe cream brule, or burnt sugar nose and taste. Will buy again. -
Russell's Reserve 10 Year Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed December 14, 2015 (edited January 5, 2016)Good sipping bourbon. Smooth and sweet, with caramel and crème brulee. It finishes quick. Was expecting a little more substance. That's not a complaint, just a little surprising. I like this whiskey. -
Bushmills 21 Year Single Malt
Single Malt — Ireland
Reviewed November 30, 2015 (edited April 24, 2018)Could not put my finger on exactly what I was tasting. It was sweet without being syrupy. Finally decided it was like bread pudding. Then it was fruity, plums and blackberry. It finished warm all the way down. That's what made me want some more. It's really expensive and really good. -
I'm a scotch and Kentucky bourbon drinker so this is a departure. It's a good whiskey. Loved the nose, sweet, brown or burnt sugar. Tried it neat then with 1 ice cube. First sip was lightly bitter, with spice. Recommend with the ice cube. It's a sipping whiskey so recommend room temperature after the single cube melts. Easy to drink and really enjoyable. Kind of reminded me of TX whiskey.

Weller Special Reserve Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed October 15, 2015 (edited August 26, 2016)This is a great bourbon at a great price that can be found anywhere. UPDATE - used to be found anywhere. A little sweet, but it has an alcohol burn that makes up for it. I will always have this in my cabinet - unless the price goes up too much. -
Finally got my hands on a bottle. Smooth- no ice cube needed. This is everything you expect in a bourbon - alcohol burn, sweet caramel, crème brule, wood and good long finish that makes you ready for another taste. It was hard to find. I put it way in the back of my cabinet so I have to work to get at it. Otherwise, it'll be gone in a week.

Balvenie Doublewood 12 Year
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed October 4, 2015 (edited November 4, 2015)Found the nose to be astringent. Add an ice cube a this is one smooth scotch whisky. The nose turns sweet with fruit. Goes down easy and stays with you. Can't wait for the weather to turn cold and wet.
