Clément Canne Bleue Rhum Blanc Agricole
Rhum Agricole Blanc — Caribbean, Martinique
Reviewed September 26, 2024OMG. With a capital O, capital M, capital G. This rhum agricole is INTENSE, even by Clement/100 proof standards. The aromatics here are crazy. Jumps out the glass with grassy, floral, herbal smells. The flavor profile follows the nose, with a fresh ting of something minty, some lime zest, and maybe some cinnamon. There are some tropical dimensions here at play as well--though, they are harder to pin down. Lychee?? Rambutan??? Cherimoya? But, definitely lime. Lots of lime; like, lime leaf. Hot as it is, this is wonderful neat... and a killer Ti' Punch! -
Christian Drouin Sélection Calvados
Calvados — Calvados Domfrontais, France
Reviewed September 26, 2024Huge apple and pear notes. Fruity, crisp, and a tad bracing. Hot on the pallet and with a bit of rustic vibe. First Calvados I've tried, so the closest point of comparison I have is some nicer bottles of Lairds. -
A bit of alcohol and not much else on the nose. The palate has a bit more going on, but not by much. It’s clean, crisp, bright, and just a hint of sweet sugar cane on the finish. It’s not super impressive, but fine for any application where what you want is something that isn’t going to inject too much of itself into the picture.

Tequila Ocho Reposado San Jerónimo 2023
Tequila Reposado — Los Altos, Jalisco, Mexico
Reviewed September 23, 2023 -
Oh, wow. That’s so good. Opens up a lot in the glass, especially with a bit of aeration. There’s so much going on here. It’s not just an evolution of the VSOP, although it still clearly has that offering as its progenitor, this is next level. I’m not sorry about spending the money on it (probably 60-70% more than the VSOP), but it’s entirely clear where the money went. It’s like a figgy pudding in the most British sense and is somehow carrying many tropical and dried fruit notes that I didn’t pick up on in any of the other JM offerings. Highly recommend!
