Tastes

Clean, pure agave, drier than many others that pack as much flavor, but still having enough sweetness from the agave to round things out and carry the other flavors. A baseline or benchmark blanco for me.

Really beautiful, this one. A delight. This might be my favorite blanco tequila so far. Really complex, rich, and has all the elements I imagine a blanco tequila should have… which admitedly, I’m still working out, but I’ll take it.

Love this one. It has a hint of that cotton-candy/grape flavor I get really strongly from the Casamigos reposado. But this is not a reposado, so shouldn’t have any barrel influence… and it’s supposedly additive free (maybe extra so since I just noticed mine is the organic version of the blanco). Whatver it is, it’s much better framed, less dominant, and more rounded out here. There’s a complex backdrop of other stuff going on, from floral notes to tropical ones. Really enjoying this one, after a few times sipping on it.

Sweet, agave, peppers, green vegetal undertones, but with a spicey backdrop that has little bite at the end, along with lime leaf, borage, and a slightly earthy, lingering finish that’s pretty nice.

For someone who came to this place from “I didn’t know if I like tequila… until I tried Patrón”, Don Julio blanco tics all the right boxes, while not being that other tequila which I shall not name again. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, but from a value proposition… Like this a whole lot more than I did Espalón blanco. Has that nice, grassy, almost rum Agricole thing going on. Not a lot of tropicals or fruits, so it stays in that green lane.

Has some of the same candy-like flavors of the reposado, but they are strangely more subdued, lengthened, and the whole thing is more mellow and rounded. Makes me think even more that something is going on here. Watch this space.

When I first tasted/smelled this one, it blew me away. Because it was, well, unique to me at the time. It’s still got it: something really potent, cotton-candy-like, maybe almost grapey, but like grape flavor, not vinous at all. Berry notes. But as I return to it, I’ve come to find it a bit cloying on the finish and a bit too hard hidding up front. It’s been a challenge to mix with, because it takes over the drink. I find myself wondering… if that flavor, whatever it is, is coming from Agave, the barrel it’s aged in, or… ? Additives? The more I drink it, the more it tastes vaguely artificial.
