Beefeater London Dry Gin (47%)
London Dry Gin — England
Reviewed March 22, 2022 (edited February 10, 2023)So far, this seems like the quintessential gin-lover’s gin. You get what you asked for here; but the fan service doesn’t get in the way of the balance. It’s got a moderate sweetness that rounds things out, and the juniper is right up front and being its best self, but the supporting cast is there to really carry it forward, including citrus peel, and deeper herbaceous and earthy notes. A classic for a reason. -
Super smooth, a bit of a spicy punch at the end, but mellow throughout otherwise. Lots of subtle flavors and aromas I stuggle to pinpoint, but mostly because I think I was getting hung up on the orange notes. Definitely a bit of warm clove, and overripe red fruits. A real step up from Jameson… which until now had me thinking I just didn’t like Irish whiskey very much.

The nose is lacking in anything distinctive. The flavor profile is inoffensive, but unimpressive. It’s whiskey. It’s not bad whiskey. But it’s not great or noteworthy. Where it really lacks is depth and smoothness. There’s some noticeable and unpleasant burn and harshness, both up front and at the tail end. Not a deal-breaker, but nothing that is going to win me over.

Angel's Envy Bourbon Finished in Port Wine Barrels
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed March 22, 2022 (edited April 5, 2022)An interesting pour. This is distinctive to the other bourbons I’ve sampled so far in my foray. Very smooth, with a maple breakfast vibe and a whisper of cinnamon and caramelized palm sugar. Subdued sweetness lingering until the end.
