Aiko Importers American Eagle Bourbon
Bourbon — USA
Reviewed December 9, 2023 (edited December 26, 2023)Obviously a gimmick, but it was a gift, so here goes… Nose: rubber, corn, cardboard, tar, faint mint. Palate: minimal flavor, corn, barrel char, and water. No finish. If the person who gifted this to me sees this it’s a 5. @twostal 😳 -
Millcroft Reserve Milford Bourbon
Bourbon — Ohio, USA
Reviewed November 28, 2023 (edited December 30, 2023)Nose of green grass, rye, corn, oak, cinnamon, green cardamom, and pisco. Tastes sweet and green, of cherry, grass, grape jelly, baking spices, peach, vanilla, confectioner’s sugar. Lingering spice at the finish. It’s young. Started out smelling like grass and unaged brandy, and although it did develop some character after a few minutes, it remained quite green. On the palate it’s quite different, still green, but mostly sweet and fruity and rich. Odd. @twostal -
Balcones Cataleja
American Single Malt — Texas, USA
Reviewed November 27, 2023 (edited December 9, 2023)The nose has sherry all over it, there’s also amaro, raisin, fig, berry jelly, caramel, almonds, something herbal, vanilla, oak, leather, butterscotch, toffee, malted barley, orange, cherry. On the palate, again heavy sherry cask, very very heavy that is, with grape jelly, berries, amaro, Dr. Pepper, vanilla, raisins, Jolly Ranchers, sweet, but somehow not too much so. Finishes sweet and fruity, dry with a touch of spice. What a level of complexity, the layers take almost no imagination. They’re distinct and potent, morphing back and forth with each visitation. This isn’t my favorite single malt. My favorites would be a bit less sweet and fruity. But for complexity I know I haven’t met its equal. @twostal -
