In Martinique, aging requirements are at least 3 years for a VO designation, 4 years for VSOP, 6 for XO, and at least 6 for vintage rhums. Hors d'age is aged between 8-12 years.

"Barbancourt 5 Star is definitely a rum meant for sipping. There's an oaky spice, pepper and wood on the nose, hints of a rich caramel and vanilla in the background. On the palate, find dry oaky notes, vanilla, molasses and cane sugar; its agricole nature shining. On a long finish, find more oak and spice, and a hearty molasses undertone."
