Montelobos Espadín Mezcal Joven
Mezcal Joven — Oaxaca, Mexico
Reviewed October 20, 2018 (edited October 23, 2018)To me, smoke and ash. The wife, savory with some sweetness and like biting on a log (like what you smell around the neighborhood in the fall). Definitely worth trying. Drank it neat but bet it would be great in a cocktail.Tacos El Tio -
How is this an 86? Definitely deserves higher score than that; believe the community is right on this at 4.3 (right on, LeeEvolved at 4.75). I found it more impressive upon open than most and it got better as it oxidized. Granted, the bottle is pretty much finished a mere few months after picking it up but the nose and flavors expanded and shifted over that time. The smoke isn't as "in your face" as some other choices; I find it a veyr pleasant player. Chocolate is definitely here. Bacon, too... so, chocolate covered bacon anyone? This is just plainly good; I do own bottles of the Corry and Uige and it puts up a nice challenge.

Clase Azul Tequila Reposado
Tequila Reposado — Los Altos, Jalisco, Mexico
Reviewed March 30, 2018 (edited May 6, 2018)Holy wow. This is amazing for the price point ($80). You know how people say "I can't drink tequila" or similar? This is what you give them to open their eyes. Agave sweetness, vegetal on the nose. Carries through on the palate with the alcohol perfectly balanced to sweetness. If this is the difference between a 97 and a 95 (my previous favorite was Don Julio Anejo followed by 123 Anejo) then wow - 97 all day every day. Don't think, just pick it up. -
Port Charlotte Scottish Barley
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed March 28, 2018 (edited April 14, 2018)Didn't seem to be balanced. Too much oak smoke with peat for me. Dry and alcohol. Must have been the Islay barley one I liked? -
