Look I'm no professional or anything but even I can tell when a couple of dude's are stroking their ego. This bottle with it's weird name and constant referral to the legends that collaborated to produce it seems a little circle jerky to me. That said, it was $7 off at the bottle shop, so let's give it a go. Nose: Slightly sour, wine forward with oak Palate: A little watery mouthfeel. Not particularly sweet. Concord grape, leather, burnt caramel. The flavours are fighting each other a bit, but that also adds complexity. Finish: Medium length, the clashing flavours mellow a bit to form a slightly bitter but satisfying end. Maybe those pretentious masters know what they're doing after all. There's something here that's for sure. I want to not like it, but it has that quality of something you don't like initially but can grow on you.

Bulleit 10 Year Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed October 12, 2023 (edited December 12, 2023)The only way this could sound more American is if it were called Gun Bourbon. Strong oak, caramel, and a bit of smoky rye spice on the nose. Very sweet and fruity on the palate. Apples, cherries and peaches. Lengthy, warm finish where the oaks and tannins come back in varying degrees. If you like your bourbon on the sweeter side, this is a good option. It hits all the classic notes and that little bit of extra rye spices things up. The bottle is cool, looks like something cowboys would drink, then throw the glass behind their back and shoot it before it hits the floor. -
Courvoisier VSOP Fine Champagne Cognac
Cognac — Cognac, France
Reviewed October 5, 2023 (edited November 25, 2023)Pass the Courvoisier. Strong honey and musty wine cellar on the nose. Fruit forward palate with berries, grapes and oak. Fairly hot with a slightly oily mouth feel. The finish is where this one really shines. It's a full bowl of orchard fruits and just keeps going. It's a nice Cognac but not the best I've tried. Probably tastes better if you've just conquered the Prussian army. -
Writer's Tears. Somehow both the coolest and dumbest name for a whiskey that I've come across so far. Insane Irish... (smart enough to get a dagger past your guards...old man). Let's dive in and have a little cry. Nose is ripe peaches, brandy and light oak. Punchy on the palate with some heat but tons of stone fruit. Nice, thick mouthfeel. You get a bit of honey and grape as well. Medium finish where the honey flavour develops a bit more. If I was tasting blind, I might guess that this is a younger Cognac, as the grain flavours really take a back seat to the fruit. I'm not quite sure it works as a straight sipper, maybe needs a rock or two. This would really shine as the base of any peach cocktail. Toss peach schnapps in the garbage and pick up a bottle of this instead.

Empress 1908 Indigo Gin
Distilled Gin — British Columbia, Canada
Reviewed September 27, 2023 (edited September 28, 2023)This is by far the craziest looking spirit I've drank so far. It looks like the Kool aid man's tears. Nose is juniper, lemon and pine. The palate is a bit oily, slightly sweet. The juniper and citrus are really balanced and everything is quite understated. Quite a long finish for gin, where I get a little bit of warm spices, orange and cranberry. This can easily stand on it's own, but I can imagine makes some pretty wacky looking cocktails. I'm looking forward to experimenting with it's colour changing ability. I don't blame the distillery for adding the ultraviolet gimmick, but it's nice that they backed up the flash with a really solid product. -
Chartreuse Green Liqueur
Herbal/Spice Liqueurs — France
Reviewed September 18, 2023 (edited September 19, 2023)Smells like a Christmas tree. Pine, spearmint and cut grass. I don't even know what to make of it on the palate. It's honestly what Mr. Scot must have felt when he said "It's.... it's green". It's like if you grew every single culinary herb and made a pesto out of it. The flavours just don't stop. The finish is very lengthy and I get strong Thai basil. It's weird but bloody fantastic. It's the drink equivalent of "I have the weirdest boner right now". -
Super minty nose with a bit of citrus peel. The refreshing mint continues on the palate followed by a bevy of other herbs. Just sweet enough but not cloying like Aperol. The bitterness comes through in the finish but it's exactly what you want. I love this stuff especially with a few ice cubes. This is would be the perfect accompaniment to a mortadella and provolone sandwich while picnicking in the Dolomites.
