Nose: Beautiful bouquet. Oil, fruity notes lead by papaya, rubber, lightly charred and spiced oak, vanilla, fresh peat. Palate: warm spice, leather, burnt sugar, caramel apple, orange zest, rubber, charred oak, fresh smoke. The more I drank the more the bold and spice mellowed and toffee started to surface. Body: Oily (not as quite as nose suggests), full bodied, warm, bold, a little harsh upfront, but smooth finish. Overall: The smokey scotch peat works masterfully with the spice and warming on the initial sips. I would say the "fire" is not represented by the typical scotch smoke in the backdrop, but more the spices and warmth that play infront. The "Cane" undoubtably adds the great array of rum characteristics that add piquancy and mellow sweetness. Lots of complexity, personally thinks it works well but could see some drinkers getting lost. Being more of a rum drinker dabbling in scotch, this is a fantastic bridge between the two.75.0 CAD per Bottle

Nose: First hit is of raisin and fig with some spice. As the rum rests, the spice goes away and hints of caramel and banana bread surface. Despite having the smell of lots of sweet elements (caramel, banana, raisin, fig) it does not give off many sugary or sweet notes, just the other properties of each item. Body: On the lighter-medium bodied side with a slight oily texture. True to it's 7 year age statement. Little to no burn, dry finish. Taste: Semi-sweet plum with a winey backdrop. Some sweet wood and fig combatted by a mild leather. Again, some items with sweet properties but no prevalent sweetness. Spectacular balance. The finish is dry and leaves a touch of ash on the palette. Overall: 5 stars for balance. Interesting and balanced enough that it could be enjoyed neat or as a premium mix. The lack of age and complexity hold it back from being a true sipper, but a versatile staple rum to have in the bar. Also great to use as a benchmark rum to compare against lighter/sweeter rums to older/bolder varieties.

Nose: Warm cedar and oak, cola, well done toast and slight maple. Body: Medium to full bodied. Spice is delayed when first sipped but emerges after the first taste and lingers on the tip of the tongue. Can taste some good age here (manufacturer claims 8-15 years). Taste: First notes consist of dark chocolate, followed by the spice of black pepper, clove, and tobacco. Finish consists of burnt caramel as the sweetness is subdued by the bitter side as it goes down. Overall: Enough maturity and sophistication to make it a decent sipper. Too much complexity to waste as a mix, but can be a little too bold to add to sipping rotation for more novice rum drinkers. Overall a good starter rum for those looking to get acquainted with the more serious rums.40.0 CAD per Bottle

Aged Rum — Dominican Republic
Reviewed December 14, 2018 (edited February 15, 2020)Nose: Lots of brown sugar, vanilla and honey. Light caramel, apricot and bubble gum. No wood or oak notes. Body: Overall light bodied but nice syrupy texture. Nicely balanced with complexity in the sweet notes. Lacks complexity outside the sweetness. Very smooth, no bite. Taste: Predominately vanilla and honey, with some toffee notes. Finally extract some of the faint wood notes upfront, can't determine what type of wood but not oaky. The bubblegum on the nose dissapears until the aftertaste. Overall: A very nice "patio rum". Great to enjoy neat on a warm tropical day. It is definitely on the lighter/sweeter side, but has some good flavours. Website states it is aged 12+ years but really lacks the maturity of an aged rum. Nonetheless very enjoyable.Punta cana
