Tastes

It's been years since I've had this, but I felt like revisiting it. First whiff when the cork pops is all peat and earth. After a few minutes in the glencairn it opens up and gets quite light and even a little buttery on the nose. On the tongue perhaps not as balanced as I remember, with the peat really singing loud and proud, with the char and smoke bullying the quieter sweet and buttery notes. On the palate I get what tastes like a bar of pitch black chocolate that spent a night in a campfire. The finish comes through with a surprising grassy brightness like the first blades of grass popping up after a brush fire burnt through an area. Particularly enjoying the lack of thick goopy sherry here.

Interesting. Uncle gave me the last of his bottle in Sweden. Sweeter than I expected, really pleasant, light, and drinkable.

Soft and surprisingly muted. Well balanced but felt like more of a whisper than a clear voice.

Second pour in our pre Derby tasting. Had this in Kentucky a while back, but haven't been back since. Nuttier than I remember. Considering the price I wouldn't return to this one, but it's enjoyable nonetheless.

Doing a small tasting before our Derby Day party. We have OGD bonded, Henry McKenna 10, and OF 1897 Bonded. If you follow us on Twitter or Instagram, those bottles are what we're using. Rough life! Haven't had the OGD bonded in years, but it's a classic for a reason. Really balanced and enjoyable as a sippable bourbon, especially considering it's proof.

being a huge LA Kings fan, I so desperately want to own a bottle of this.

Nutty, middle of the road, blah. Muted corn sweetness is the only redeeming quality. Smells much better than it tastes.
