Nikka Taketsuru 21 Year Pure Malt
Blended Malt — Japan
Reviewed August 7, 2014 (edited January 29, 2018)We had this at our SXSW party. I absolutely love it. Too bad Gray stole the last bottle. Shoulda fired him then and there. -
Jack Daniel's Old No. 7
Tennessee Whiskey — Tennessee, USA
Reviewed July 30, 2014 (edited November 13, 2022)For the longest time (college) I thought all whiskey tasted like Tennessee whiskey. That makes me wonder how much of the world thinks the same thing since this is the most popular whiskey on earth. -
Macallan 12 Year Sherry Oak Cask
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed July 28, 2014 (edited March 13, 2022)This was the first single malt I really fell in love with. After I spent a little time with it, I started to feel it was too sweet and a bit syrupy, but it will always have a soft spot in my heart. -
Michter's 25 Year Single Barrel Bourbon
Bourbon — USA
Reviewed July 27, 2014 (edited April 27, 2024)Sitting on the shelf for $499.99 at my local store. Want it, but not going for that. -
Woodford Reserve Double Oaked
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed July 26, 2014 (edited April 24, 2018)First tried this on our trip down to the Woodford distillery outside Louisville. Pretty sweet - described as a "dessert" whiskey. Definitely is that. Liked it a lot though! -
Dalmore Gran Reserva
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed July 25, 2014 (edited August 2, 2017)I haven't had this one in probably a year or more. I don't remember it being my favorite of the Dalmore's I had tried. A bit sweet for me if I remember right. -
Booker's 25th Anniversary Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed July 24, 2014 (edited November 25, 2017)As a good friend once said, "yummy fucking yummy." Loved this. Had it up at Liberty in Seattle. Beautiful spot, beautiful whiskey. -
Glenlivet 12 Year Double Oak
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed July 24, 2014 (edited August 2, 2017)This was one of the early single malts I got into, I think because it was available everywhere and often kept in a place of prominence at grocery stores and terrible liquor stores. I thought it was fancy. Then I found other single malts and realized what I'd been missing. It's fine, but if this is all a menu has in the way of whisky I will sometimes skip it.
