The Glenrothes Vintage Reserve
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed October 28, 2018 (edited October 31, 2018)Maybe it was a bad batch (50 ml) but this tasted like straight ass. The nose was musty and the same note followed thru to the palate. I’m an islay guy too so I’m ready to try “heavy stuff” but this taste like straight booty. -
ABK6 XO Family Reserve Cognac
Cognac — Fins Bois, France
Reviewed September 25, 2018 (edited December 20, 2023)It’s a good cognac with a different palate compared to the big four. For it being an xo, I do think it’s priced reasonably. However, I won’t be buying the full 750ml after having just the 50ml. Curious to try the VSOP since it’s ranked so highly -
CAMUS XO Borderies Single Estate
Cognac — Borderies, France
Reviewed September 25, 2018 (edited November 21, 2020)Delicious cognac. Someone in the comments described the palate as “pound cake” and I couldn’t put my finger on it at first but that is it! The aroma of this cognac is sweet, honey and caramel. Palate is sweet breaded dessert: pound cake, Danish pastry, and sweet crust with a hint of dried fruit. I picked up the 50ml but I’m so tempted now to buy the full 750ml. My first Camus and I was blown away -
Decent spirit to drink. Has notes of cinnamon, spice and everything nice... burnt sugar and a very subtle uplifting citrus touch. It may be because I’m used to drinking whisk[e]y, but I feel like this rum doesn’t taste like a 15 year old spirit. I expected it to be more “dense” and “oily”. Instead it tastes very “shallow”, “thin” and perhaps even watered down. Was kind of disappointed. Is this how most aged rums taste (compared to whisky)?

(Update) Had the XO and, surprisingly, I prefer the VSOP! Wow! Good cognac. Fruity - but not overpowering- and rich. It coats your mouth with warm raisin and dark fruit and - I never thought I’d say this but - I actually prefer this over Remy 1738. I purchased the 200ml to sample it but will soon purchase the 750ml. Sure it’s “mainstream” but there is no denying its “very special”. This may even entice me to purchase its older brother - Hennessy XO

Cherry is the foundation for this bourbon. It layers on top of each other, presenting different characters of cherry, as you continue sipping. Perhaps the most pronounced note is a chocolate covered cherry flavor. Very tasty whiskey. Would go well with chocolate/dessert if you’re feeling adventurous.
