The nose on this is very unique. I would really love to hear other people’s viewpoint, but I get a real musty and vegetal note…possibly earthy. I own a lot of bottles and nothing in what I own noses like this. Not my favorite notes TBH, but it’s unique so props on that and some folks may enjoy. And that nose transfers right to the palate. All of that earthiness and mustiness just hits you with some medicinal notes on the backend. A bit of spice and a decent finish, but I really struggle to find a lot that I like about this bottle. Maybe you will like, but I doubt I’ll buy another.45.0 USD per Bottle

The Prideful Goat 6 Year Cask Strength Rye
Rye — Indiana , USA
Reviewed January 14, 2023 (edited July 8, 2024)The nose was pretty classic MGP 95 / 5 rye. Rye spice, herbal and dilly but a tad of ethanol on the nose. enjoy the taste more than the nose. Classic rye on the taste. Not especially long finish. Glad I have it probably wouldn’t buy another bottle but will definitely drink it. Definitely one you want to taste before you buy as it’s not the cheapest bottle out there. Again, not bad just expensive for what it is.74.0 USD per Bottle -
Nice nose … almost bourbon like. Not spicy or really reminiscent of a rye. However, the taste disappointing me. The nose did not transfer over. Felt a little thin and even a bit Fenty. finish with short. I’ll come back to it, but was disappointed given a lot of people hyping this up as an on the shelf everyday great buy.52.0 USD per Bottle

This is a very soft rye on the nose in that I do not get a ton of spice when nosing. Definite vanilla, apple (or similar fruit note) with a hint on smoke. Quite pleasant on the nose and one I think would appeal to bourbon drinkers though certainly not as sweet or caramel forward. The taste is definitely more of a rye pour with the nose translating and the spice amping up that lingers into the finish with peppery notes in the mouth and that rye lingering. Definitely some chocolate comes through on the taste. I’ve enjoyed it a bit more in the past versus now, but still believe it’s a quality rye especially at the price point and recommend it.42.0 USD per Bottle

Hirsch Small Batch High-Rye Straight Bourbon 8 Year
Bourbon — Indiana, USA
Reviewed December 29, 2022This is a very intriguing pour. And to be honest I am having a really tough time picking out the tasting notes on this. Vanilla and some spice seem to be the most predominant. A bit of caramel on the taste and a shortish finish. It’s good but a tad thin for an 8 year. No real criticism but nothing that jumps out either. I won’t refuse but not drawn back. A very muted balanced pour. -
Doc Swinson's Blenders Cut Straight Bourbon
Bourbon — USA
Reviewed December 29, 2022 (edited March 15, 2023)Nose is really nothing to write home about. The proof really over takes it and that’s unfortunate as the taste and finish are really good as I get some apple or light fruit notes and the ethanol on the nose doesn’t transfer to the taste. Finish is medium as I feel it but low on an aftertaste. -
O.K.I. Reserve Blended Bourbon Whiskey (Batch 1)
Blended American Whiskey — USA
Reviewed December 24, 2022 (edited November 3, 2023)One can tell this is expertly blended. A lot going on with the nose, but nothing that necessarily draws you in as exceeding great … just good. Sweet with some refined grain notes … a touch of brown sugar hiding in there and you can tell it should come with a punch of spice when you drink it … which it does. Quite spicy … taste follows the nose but the spice is a bit overwhelming on the other notes. Nice warming finish in the throat, but wouldn’t say it a long lasting. Quite nice and looking forward to seeing how this opens up.70.0 USD per Bottle
