Unsurprisingly, this is very oaky and all the tastes that go with that - a woodiness, lots of vanilla, and some secondary peppery spices. It’s decently smooth, but could be a bit smoother (the finish is a little hot for my taste), and is somewhat one-dimensional, making this a good but not great whiskey.

Ron Diplomático Reserva Exclusiva Rum
Aged Rum — Venezuela
Reviewed October 25, 2020 (edited October 28, 2020)A very solid sipping rum - very dark and almost syrupy in texture. Another review said it almost tastes like a bottled cocktail rather than a rum, and that’s right - which isn’t to say this is bad, just that it feels like a little “more” than just rum. Other than the sweetness, there’s also a hit of spice (cinnamon in particular stands out to me) and just enough heat to give this some heft while remaining smooth. -
Paul Beau VSOP Grande Champagne Cognac
Cognac — Grande Champagne, France
Reviewed June 17, 2020 (edited February 22, 2022)Smells almost like a candied orange. Orange on the palate too, but also retains much of the grape flavor as well as subtler notes or vanilla and salt. Starts a bit hot and there’s a disappointingly short finish, but overall a very impressive producer Cognac.
