I usually like Japanese whiskeys but wasn’t a huge fan of this one. It’s almost cloyingly sweet, and feels very light and with not much of a finish. I actually might share with with someone who didn’t like whiskey because it could be a decent introductory whiskey, but, otherwise, I probably wouldn’t recommend it over many other alternatives.

Unsurprisingly, this is very oaky and all the tastes that go with that - a woodiness, lots of vanilla, and some secondary peppery spices. It’s decently smooth, but could be a bit smoother (the finish is a little hot for my taste), and is somewhat one-dimensional, making this a good but not great whiskey.

Ron Diplomático Reserva Exclusiva Rum
Aged Rum — Venezuela
Reviewed October 25, 2020 (edited October 28, 2020)A very solid sipping rum - very dark and almost syrupy in texture. Another review said it almost tastes like a bottled cocktail rather than a rum, and that’s right - which isn’t to say this is bad, just that it feels like a little “more” than just rum. Other than the sweetness, there’s also a hit of spice (cinnamon in particular stands out to me) and just enough heat to give this some heft while remaining smooth.
