Monkey Shoulder Blended Malt
Blended Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed August 9, 2017 (edited December 30, 2020)The scent is faint, almost evades the nose. Has a bit of sweetness to it, but beside that it is very bland. The taste on the other hand is very strong and goes down hard on the very first sip. Even letting it sit with the ice and get a bit soft, it will still have the bite for a long while. The taste and the smokiness does remind me on Jack Daniels. So if you like JD, you will like this as well. It is a good middle ground. It doesn't play with the senses as others would, but if you need a good kick in the mouth after a bad day. You can count on this. -
Haven't had this for a while and forgot how good it is actually. Really nice vanilla scent with a hint of wooden charcoal. It is easy to drink, although it's not that smooth as one would expect after smelling. It's a good middle regarding strength. The taste is in harmony with its scent, but could be stronger, more dominating. It manages to maintain that slight vanilla flavour in the background. If you want something cheap and drinkable from Irish sources, this is for you.

Jack Daniel's Old No. 7
Tennessee Whiskey — Tennessee, USA
Reviewed June 6, 2017 (edited August 12, 2017)Is it bad? Nope! Is it good? Nope! It's a middle with some good marketing, which made it the most recognised brand out in the wild. I do like it. It has that smokey, sharp edge in the first two seconds I grew to fancy. For the same price you could get something much better, but it is what it is. An iconic whiskey which does deserve some appreciation. If for nothing else we have to acknowledge the role it plays in getting people into drinking whiskey.
