Chairman's Reserve Spiced Rum
Spiced Rum — Saint Lucia
Reviewed October 3, 2022 (edited July 16, 2024)Ladies and gentlemen.. We have a winner! As a novice dabbler in the world of rum, I can safely state that this is one of the best spiced rums I had so far. Even if you're not a fan of sweet tastes, or you brush your teeth with candyfloss every morning... This rum has to be experienced. I mean, how can one say no to this at this price point? I can easily see myself having a goto bottle of this at all times when I am not in the mood for whiskey. Or having it on a cocktail, or even used for backing. It is so good that life just gets better from it, no matter how you consume. On the nose it's very sweet and fruity with a hint if citrus and cinnamon undertone. On the tongue the sweet nectar aroma is dominant with cinnamon and cardamom aftertaste. The citrusy scent doesn't show up to the party though. And an added bonus is the nice warmth it gives as it travels downward.25.99 GBP per Bottle -
This one goes in the favourites right away! Makes me want to put a parrot on my shoulder and have a peg for me right leg. Yarrrr! Very, very (I mean very) sweet on the nose. Banana, vanilla and some kind of candyfloss(ish) in the back. A very peculiar scent. Reminds me when one bakes banana bread and opens the oven to take it out and the hot air filled with the scent just hits one in the face. That sweet aroma is just so inviting. Taste does not disappoint either. It does follow with the same notes and mutates into a sweet honeydew(ish), syrupy taste. Still, there is that banana and strong vanilla taste and something else which I just cannot describe... Dates or figs perhaps...? I am not a guy with a sweet tooth, but this is top shelf stuff if you like spiced rum. Very different from the "common" spiced rum experience.30.0 GBP per Bottle

Some things just don't go together well. Perhaps one of these are rum and coconut. For me coconut and banana are the flavours which can be done wrong very easily. Put in too much and it kills everything besides it, put in too little and you barely notice. This rum starts off coconut heavy and then goes into territories I never thought possible. Sour, bitter and sweet tastes swirl around my mouth like a moshpit, each of them fighting for recognition. The rest of the familiar rum notes are lying in the dirt unable to get up, completely destroyed by this coconut(ish) taste tsunami. With every new sip the fight gets heavier and at one point my taste buds break out in agony and plead to stop this madness. Perhaps this rum is not intended to drink neat. Perhaps it is intended for cocktails. Perhaps it's just me who is the problem. Whatever it is, this is undrinkable for me.

A nice drinkable rum with a sweet flavour dominating the field. You might want to have a sweet tooth to really enjoy this one. On the nose it will punch with some cinnamon, cherry, clove and cardamon. Very satisfying just to sit there and sniff at it. Reminds me of Christmas somehow. The taste will just further the cause of those sweet notes. Gives off a sweet vanilla infused with the aforementioned ones to begin with. I wouldn't even recommend to use it in anything else. It's so drinkable by itself that I would feel wasting it when putting it in a cocktail or something.23.0 GBP per Bottle

Drinking it neat. Very sweet on the nose. Just plain simple sweetness, with a hint of vanilla (and a bit of cherry perhaps?). It does mutate after the first sip a bit and shows some smoky woody flavour. The taste, oh the taste is wonderful. Right until letting it slide down, there is no burning sensation at all. It's all wonderfully sweet and mellow taste that runs around one's mouth. After everything has subsided the sweetness stays, like after eating a nice dessert (vanilla and caramel one). I can imagine this being a go to for rye lovers, as the price point is really good and definitely worth it. It might not live up to other alternatives from far away lands, but it's something that can be the one you reach for on a regular basis for that rye-i goodness.28.0 GBP per Bottle

My all time favourite at this point. Just the scent alone invites you in right away. Mildly sweet with a hint of vanilla. On the taste it is a mixture of sweet, smooth, smoky wood, vanilla with some fruitiness coming out of hiding from time to time. Overall one of the best given how much it costs and it can be one of the goto ones for every bourbon enthusiast. Surely there are better options out there, but this one is like the old friend you can count on in every situation. No collection is complete without this one.24.0 GBP per Bottle

I am on the fence with this one. Love it and hate it on the same time. Very easy on the nose and on the taste as well. Has a hint of bitterness lingering in the back that causes most of my dislike perhaps. I was expecting a more fruity and sweet scent and taste, but instead I got a heavier more rugged experience, one I would expect from other spirits. My mind says rum, but my taste buds say something else. For a final verdict I would say it's very good and a serious drink, but I feel like there are better options out there which I haven't found yet.

My first one from the KC family and hopefully not the last. Inviting nutty vanilla scent for the nose to grab on too. The taste is smooth, smoky and mildly fruity with the familiar kick afterwards. Its strength does dominate if it's drunk neat. Not surprising by looking at how strong it is. Regardless, after a couple of sips one can get very used to and after that the smoky sweetness comes through even stronger. A very nice bourbon, one of the best I had the opportunity to drink so far. Drink it neat, on ice or as an Old Fashioned. You won't be disappointed at all.

I don't have too much experience with rum, but I quite like this one. The spice notes are subtle and leave a bit of bite to it in the end. Very easy on the nose, with a hint of vanilla. A very simple drink with simple flavours and easy to drink neat. Sometimes that's all what you need.16.0 GBP per Bottle

I will give it just two stars, but these are really strong ones. It is really bland on the nose and the subtle scent it gives is rather sweet. The same goes for the taste. It's bland but then it gives a strong kick. There is nothing peculiar in there that would get a grip on my taste buds. So for now I was pretty harsh on it and gave a really negative review. But... Its real strength it's in blandness so to speak. I've tried it as an old fashoined with some bitters and it really lets everything shine through. You will still get some whiskey in there, which is nice, but as with most of the nicer ones, they dominate the field when it comes to cocktails, this just lets everything to get a say in the final outcome, which is very nice. So if you want something for cocktails, especially Old Fashioned, then go with this. You will be surprised how much the orange peel, the bitters and sugars will play with your senses whilst the whiskey plays the main tunes from the background.
