Sortilège Original Canadian Whisky & Maple Syrup Liqueur
Other Liqueurs — Quebec, Canada
Reviewed December 2, 2021 (edited October 21, 2022)Obviously this is sweet. But, not as sweet as you’d think. Any Canadian knows that real maple syrup is very complex and a lot more than a sweetener. This tastes like the real deal. C’est pas sirop de poteau. It’s complex, not as much as a good scotch or Irish of course, but a lot more than you’d think. Like real maple syrup, it has a charred maple taste that is deep and dark, and a rich sweetness with a long finish. NOTE: The proper way to drink this is over ice, preferably over one big ice cube. -
This is the best gin I’ve ever tasted. And I can’t imagine a gin tasting better than this. It’s even too good for gin and tonics. Just sip and be amazed. Lots of aromatics. A feast for the nose as much as the mouth. Not too much just right. Juniper is definitely not the leader here. It’s more herbal and floral. The initial taste is warm and smooth and almost tea-like. But, also like really good candy, sweet but not too sweet. Just the right amount. Then, there’s the finish. Oh god, the finish. It’s amazing. It’s like a flower blooming before your eyes. So many flavors fill the palette. It’s a combination of flavors that is difficult to describe. It’s a work of art. So smooth all the way through. You barely taste alcohol. Only the most pleasant parts of the alcohol. If you ever find yourself on Bowen island, stop in and experience this. Then, buy the biggest bottle they have. Otherwise look them up online and get it shipped, if possible.

Powers Signature Release
Single Pot Still — Ireland
Reviewed January 8, 2021 (edited March 19, 2021)A great Irish. Very smooth and it’s right up there with the classics, green spot and red breast. What’s nice about it is the higher abv. You don’t notice it in the taste at all, but you do notice you get tipsy with less. Tasting notes: Apple cinnamon on the nose, sweet cereal, caramel, fruity, a short spicy finish -
What it lacks in subtlety, it more than makes up for in drinkability. So smooth and puts all my favorite tastes right out in front. Smoky, vanilla, spicy, peppery, and of course oak. It’s very woody, but it’s perfectly balanced with the sweet vanilla. It’s become one of my all time favorites, and you can do no better for the price. Actually, you could buy much worse whisky for much more. I still can’t believe Canadian whisky can be this good.

Yellow Spot 12 Year Single Pot Still
Single Pot Still — Ireland
Reviewed January 8, 2021 (edited March 19, 2021)I’ve got a soft spot for Irish and this is the best I’ve had. So very rich and full with just the right amount of sweet. All the vanilla and apple notes you would expect, but with some real complex floral, cinnamon and nutmeg in the nose as well. Can’t emphasize enough how rich this is in all the right ways. The finish just lasts and lasts and lasts.
