Plantation O.F.T.D. Overproof Rum
Navy Rum — Multiple Countries
Reviewed October 9, 2023 (edited December 15, 2023)No added sugar, unlike other Plantation blends. A miracle blend of cask strength rums, at 69%, from Guyana, Barbados and Jamaica. My choice is to add a small portion (3-4 ounces) with other rums, into my own rum blend bottle (El Dorado 8 and 12, and Appleton Estate 12). Even so, the OFTD shines through with a wonderful richness, depth and bite. Exceptionally drinkable. Oh Fuck, That's Delicious!43.75 USD per Bottle -
Appleton Estate Rare Blend 12 Year Rum
Aged Rum — Jamaica
Reviewed August 19, 2023 (edited September 24, 2023)This version of Appleton 12 Rare Blend is new, and features a cork stopper, and a Joy Spence signature on the bottle. I gave the former blend 5 stars. Despite its metal top, it was wonderful: phenolic, deep and complex, and it was considerably less sweet than this disappointing blend, which has no punch, and less complexity and depth (and too much sugar). Please bring back the old Appleton 12 Rare Blend, Joy.49.0 CAD per Bottle -
Compass Box The Peat Monster (Classic Brown Label)
Blended Malt — Scotland
Reviewed December 30, 2017 (edited April 24, 2018)Peat Monster is my first Compass Box whisky (definitely not my last). I am impressed. I enjoy Ledaig 10, Talisker 10, Te Bheag, Highland Park 12 and Green Label. Lagavulin 10 is a bridge too far for me (sigh). So it is likely not surprising that PM scratches my itch, hugely. It is phenolic, and gentle. Coastal and peaty, yet sweet and full. Powerful and subtle. It is 46% and NCF, and in Ontario these days (limited quantity, move quickly) it is $64.90! A solid 5 star for me.
