Reviewed September 30, 2015 (edited November 7, 2015)Palate: Caramel, brown sugar, dark chocolate, cereal, vanilla, honey, dark fruit, butterscotch, toffee. Color is dark amber. Thick and oily. Smells like God's cologne. -
Glenlivet 12 Year Double Oak
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed September 30, 2015 (edited November 7, 2016)I enjoy this when I want a good basic scotch that does not require the thought and concentration that usually accompanies a complex one. Apples and honey are the initial flavor then it closes with a salty toasted cereal kiss. It is clean and kind to the palate. The sweetness is on the drier side, which I prefer so I feel like I am drinking scotch and not one of my childrens' juice boxes. -
Bruichladdich The Classic Laddie
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed August 26, 2015 (edited December 22, 2016)Nose is honey, apples, sweet, slightly floral. color is a straw-gold. Legs are medium-slow. Palate is light honey-coated yellow apple slices, grain in the background, sweet malty flourish. Finish is longer than my first marriage and sweeter as well. The flavor maintains its integrity without the usual degradation that some others provide. A very solid scotch! -
Evan Williams Single Barrel Vintage
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed August 26, 2015 (edited August 27, 2017)I tried the 2004. Nose has some pine, caramel, vanilla. Palate is earthy, slightly musty, little bit of sweetness. It's thicker and heavier than many other bourbons at the same price point. Nice long finish with a sweet aftertaste. -
Woodford Reserve Double Oaked
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed February 10, 2015 (edited April 24, 2018)Loved it when the bottle was just opened. Over a couple of months, the sweetness went away and all that was left was smoky char with a slightly bitter finish. -
I call this "dangerously smooth" as there is no burn at all. Nothing special about the flavor; it's thin and cheap with minimal finish. The smoothness is the selling point. Won't buy again but looking forward to trying the 10 year version. UPDATE: I have found that this get such better after a few weeks of the initial bottle opening. Much more drinkable and flavorful. UPDATE: 02/09/2016 After getting another bottle I have to upgrade my initial rating as this stuff is much better than I gave credit for! Smooth, caramel, butterscotch, brown sugar and vanilla right off the bat! Refined and rich...I will keep this as a staple!
