Balvenie Doublewood 12 Year
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed September 24, 2016 (edited November 11, 2016)I will be honest, I'm at ends with this bottle. It is superbly delicious, but it lacks the Sherry hit that I was looking for. It has a decent Sherry influence at the front end of the bottle, but dissipates as the bottle empties. However, what I taste is still delicious, rich, and surprisingly complex. If you are looking for a lot of Sherry, know this may not be it. If you want something to ease into the world of sherried scotch, or just want a sweet, rich, and delicious bottle, go for it. This will most definitely leave you craving it more and more, and is well worth a try if nothing else. -
Absolutely delicious! I am a huge Scotch lover, and this is one of my favorites. I will say that the flavor profile does change quite a bit as the bottle goes down (though common for spirits in general, it is even more prevalent here). I personally enjoy it more when I have been working on the bottle for a month or so, which allows it to breath a little more and open up. I would highly recommend this dram to anyone looking for a Sherry influence, as well as anyone who likes Macallan 12.
