Old Overholt 11 Year Straight Rye
Rye — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed October 18, 2020 (edited October 25, 2020)Very nice pour . Quickly becoming one of my favorite 2020 releases . Warm oak and vanilla notes, with just enough black pepper and allspice notes to remind you it’s a rye -
Easily the best in the Basil Hayden line-up so far . Easy enjoyable sipper that is a great entry way into ryes . That being said, isn’t so simple that it’s without its merits . Came in the top 3 of a blind rye flight for our group of 8 bottles against a strong lineup of rye big boys names , for example beating out baby saz and templeton rye . 3rd behind AE rye and Michters rye

Michter's 20 Year Kentucky Straight Bourbon (2018 Release)
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed May 24, 2019 (edited June 30, 2019)Holy cow , this is simply incredible. 96 points.Heavy Brown sugar , vanilla , hints of caramel . Short finish was the only con . Groups consensus favorite of the night beating out OFC 1993 , Jefferson presidential, HH23 . -
Came in middle of the pack on Wheat bottle flight of 10 different bottles for me. Heavy notes of toasted corn flakes on the nose . Palate is similar with heavy corn notes and wet burlap . Finish soften enough to show notes of almonds. Does have a long finish so if this is your flavor profile , then it’s worth a try . Unfortunately of the 10 of us tasters I gave it the most credit. So disappointing since I usually enjoy Smooth Ambler offerings

I wanted to like this more. And expected to like this more than I did . I feel WT 101 and Rare Breed are totally overlooked. Great products at their price , so I thought the single barrel selection from WT would follow suit. Decent pour but very average. Found myself trying to find something special, but while a respectable bottle , nothing I could find to make me buy this again . Will stay with their 101 and rare breed

Joseph Magnus Triple Cask Finished Bourbon
Bourbon — Indiana (Finished and Bottled in Washington DC), USA
Reviewed May 3, 2019Interesting. The nose was initially unusual and perplexing . I knew nothing of the multiple barreling at the time and as a result my initial nosing confused me. Smells of cigar ash and dark jammy fruits . The palate has flavors of sherry and stewed plums . After seeing the barreling procedures, it definitely makes sense now . I can’t say I either loved or hated this . I found it intriguing probably more so than enjoyable. That’s not to say I won’t return to try this again and actually looking forward to trying it again soon when I can spend more time with it -
