New Riff Malted Rye Bottled in Bond
Rye — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed January 22, 2022 (edited July 27, 2022)N - a light nose, traditional whisky scents - sweet… but it sets you up nicely for the smack in the face that’s coming P - vanilla, rye spices but smooth, brown sugar and maple, a little oak undertone… wonderfully strong palette after a mild nose F - rye spice backed by some sweet maple , rye burn lingers and dries the mouth out -
N.- Great nose - heavy vanilla, brown sugar, molasses …. Rich. Really, really good. P- thick mouthfeel, slightly medicinal and okay F - long finish - medicinal quickly turns to oak which fades to a high proof spicy rye burn; this fades also and leaves an oaky residue The nose really carries this whiskey. These great flavors don’t carry through out unfortunately. Oakiness and alcohol take over. Still solid. Edit: As the dram sat for a while, the sweetness stuck around a lot longer and the oakiness lessened.
