Nose. Very muted nose. Most dominant note is a distinct maltiness, faint red fruit sherry notes and even fainter vanilla. Palate. Mouthfeel is thin. Flavor notes are very much like the nose. Good maltiness, red fruit, a little vanilla. Everything is very muted and the finish is quite short. Nothing objectionable here, just everything is very muted, thin and unimpressive. You could spend less money on something better.

I’m a scotch, bourbon and mezcal guy so this was me dabbling in sipping rum…… Nose. Herbal with tabacco leaf, leather and a hunt of molasses. Palate. Suprisingly oily mouthfeel. Herbal and much less sweet than I was expecting. No burn but the alcohol is very noticeable on the palate. Finish is fairly short and is mainly the alcohol with a touch of leather and herbal notes. This has not made me want to explore rum further……I think I’ll stick to scotch, bourbon and mezcal.

Edradour Caledonia 12 Year
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed May 25, 2023 (edited December 24, 2023)This is the sherried scotch of choice. If you are looking for that old style deep rich dark fruit sherry character with some basement funk in the background, this is it. Nose and palate are consistent and full of dates, figs, raisens, plums, prunes, tabacco and an almost indescribable backbone of warehouse/basement funk that gives it much more depth than a current Glendronach 15 or Arran Sherry that come off much more bright. -
Kilkerran Heavily Peated batch 5
Single Malt — campbeltown, Scotland
Reviewed April 26, 2023 (edited June 15, 2023)If you see a bottle of this let me know and I’ll come buy it. Ok, this has very much the same nutty, peaty character of the Ardbeg Corryvreckan but with less of the peppery notes and a long finish. I’d rate this higher than the Corryvreckan but below a Laphroag 10 Cask Strength. -
Deanston 12 Year
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed April 26, 2023 (edited September 20, 2023)The neck pour on this bottle was not great. I was a bit disappointed to be honest and the finish was disappointingly short. But get it down to the shoulder and this becomes a wonderful whisky full of honey and vanilla and malty goodness with a medium to long finish. This is a great pour for a beginner or an experienced whisky lover.
