Corralejo Añejo Tequila
Tequila Añejo — Guanajuato, Mexico
Reviewed May 5, 2016 (edited November 5, 2019)Excellent, good value. Very fruity for a tequila, not as musty and smokey as many anejos but still very nice! It reminds me a great deal of a Highland Single-Malt Scotch but still has a delightful agave flavour. -
Too alcoholic to enjoy any of the (very few) complexities. Straight or with Club Soda, it's not even as good as the (bottom of the shelf) Inver House Green Plaid, that cost half as much. For some reason, however, Dewar's White Label is better in mixed drinks than the Inver House. "Experts" say this is better than Johnnie Walker Red but I disagree... of course, I've said before I'm not a Blended Scotch guy and the fact that I love Islay Single-Malts may be why I prefer JW Red over Dewar's White Label, Red is way peatier.

Very powerful nose; leather, orange peel, freshly-ground black pepper, honey, even a hint of strawberries. The taste is smokey and rich; with intense flavors if leather, wood, ancient parchment, like licking a bible from the 1800's. Lots of syrupy honey, more pronounced than in its fragrance but the black pepper tastes as strongly as it smells. It even has flavors of a woman's perfume and of vanilla. It has a smooth oily, silky feel in your mouth. The finish is herbal and peppery and lingers like a fine cigar and its ashes. So far, I think I'm putting it in my top five or so favorite Single-Malts, maybe, hesitantly in the top ten. There's much more too, take time to enjoy it. It's peaty too, so much though that the peat flavors are just a given. Look past the peat for all the complexities.
