Starward Nova Single Malt
Single Malt — Victoria, Australia
Reviewed March 6, 2021 (edited March 24, 2021)Friendly and soft, this whisky has a great fruity flavor without being too strong or sweet like other young drams. The finish is a little short but this was intended. 90 -
Starward Two-Fold Double Grain
Other Whiskey — Victoria , Australia
Reviewed March 6, 2021 (edited May 16, 2021)My first Australian whisky. Easy to drink with good grain flavor as well as some fruity red wine aromas. Definitely on the lighter side of whisky and quite unique, unlike anything I’ve ever had. 90 -
Volcán De Mi Tierra Blanco Tequila

El Jolgorio Mexicano Mezcal
Mezcal Joven — Oaxaca, Mexico
Reviewed November 16, 2019 (edited April 6, 2020)Not my favorite of the El Jolgorio range but glad I tried it. This one is mostly savory with a herbal and slightly funky character. No discernible fruitiness. 92 -
El Jolgorio Arroqueño Mezcal
Mezcal Joven — Oaxaca, Mexico
Reviewed October 26, 2019 (edited March 8, 2020)Beautifully sweet - there are lots of fruity esters in here which makes it taste like candy. There is smoke and umami towards the finish so you get a good balance of everything. 95 -
So this essentially Ardbeg dominated blend is supposed to be better than any of the readily available Ardbeg releases, yeah? Well, let me tell you it’s not. It’s more of an Ardbeg for bourbon drinkers with the sweetness taking over and the peat only really coming in at the finish. I get why it’s good, it’s a good blend, but in my opinion Compass Box is like Johnnie Walker with nice labels. It’s more about style than substance. Of course they’re blending good whiskies so it tastes good, but those whiskies didn’t need to be blended in the first place. 92
