Tastes

Nose provided aromas of sweet fruits. Taste followed through with sweet toffee, caramel, and orange before providing some spice, perhaps like a mulled apple cider. Medium finish drifted to oak.

I tried this on the recommendation of a bartender at Celtic Whiskey Bar & Larder in Killarney, Ireland. I’m not usually a fan of high ABV whiskey. My palette generally can’t overcome the alcohol burn in order to get the full flavor. Initial flavors of mild sweet over ripe fruit and oak. Not as sweet as most wine or sherry finished cask drinking. The alcohol burn comes through afterward, but the sensation is different, more like drinking a hot liquid rather than spicy heat. This allowed the flavors to continue showing through the heat.
