Forty Creek Heritage
Canadian — Ontario, Canada
Reviewed February 21, 2020 (edited February 22, 2020)Nose: Maple, caramel, butterscotch Palate: Nice oily mouthfeel. More maple and caramel. Smooth initially. Spiciness coming through later and lingering. Some black pepper notes here. Initial smoothness gives way to some burn. Finish: Medium length, dry, spicy, with hints of brandy. Overall pretty good. However not the smoothest and not overly complex. Forty Creek has had better offerings. -
Westland American Single Cask Release #2783
American Single Malt — USA
Reviewed February 16, 2020 (edited February 17, 2020)Light gold in colour. Fruitiness with some vanilla and maple on the nose. Despite the addition of water, still lacking some smoothness. Tastes young. Some vanilla notes and a subsequent peppery spiciness. medium finish with a nice woody bitterness. Not a bad overall whisky but definitely not overly smooth even with some added water. The single cask series is neat nonetheless! -
Quite pale in colour - light straw coloured. Diluted to approximately 40% from 60%. Nose: Very pleasant with floral notes, apple, and pear. Also some leather. Palate: High alcohol and requires some water. Initial honey sweetness. Some spicy notes follow then some interesting muskiness, which is quite unique. Finish: Long with lingering musky and leathery notes. Chewing on this one for a while after it's gone. Excellent flavour profile bit still somewhat harsh and tastes quite young.

Palate: Full flavour with nice influence from bourbon and sherry casks. Smooth. Vanilla and some bitter walnuts noted with a honey graham cracker undertone. Also some spicy tannins appearing and evolving into a nice tingle on the palate. Very rich. Finish: Nice long malty finish with sherry tingle on sides of the tongue. Raisins and cereal notes lingering. Delicious! One of my favourite go-to whiskys!85.99 CAD per Bottle -
Nose: Rich with notes of plums and raisins, cherries, and leather. Palate: Lots of honey initially. Fruity with some vanilla on the palate as well. Quite smooth and full flavoured. Finish: Medium finish with the sherry cask showing itself. The peat is not coming through for me, nor does it seem to be mentioned on the bottle. I quite enjoyed this whisky despite the expert and others' reviews.

Pike Creek 21 Year Finished in European Oak
Canadian — Ontario, Canada
Reviewed February 4, 2020 (edited October 5, 2021)Nose: Lots of maple with more subtle notes of has notes of vanilla, honey, green apple, and peaches. Very rich! Palate: Wow, tons of flavour to take in! Initially there is a very rich caramel flavour (typical Canadian whisky flavour for me) on the palate flowed by a nice peppery spice with cinnamon and nutmeg. Finish: Surprising finish with some spicy, woody bitterness. Not as sweet as the nose would suggest and lingers and tingles for some time. Some maple remains keeping true to Canadian whisky, a pleasant surprise!104.0 CAD per Bottle -
Highland Park 12 Year Viking Honour
Single Malt — Islands, Scotland
Reviewed February 2, 2020 (edited April 5, 2020)Definite honey on the nose with some floral notes. Some slight wood smoke and marshmallows (roasted marshmallows over a campfire?) but overall not much peat on the nose. Very nice mouthfeel and very smooth. Honey gives way to some bitter orange peel and salted chocolate followed by a slight and subtle amount of peat smoke. Some cherry notes as well. There is a medium to long finish with the sherry coming through and lingering with a nice tingle on the sides of the tongue. I'm generally not a peated whisky fan, but this is delicious and adds a great complexity to this whisky. Definitely a great value and one I will plan to have as a staple for my cabinet!61.99 CAD per Bottle -
