Russell's Reserve 10 Year Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed October 19, 2021 (edited November 1, 2021)Caveat: Noob here Nose is hot vanilla. Lots of proof for a 90. Standard bourbon flavors and just a nice drink. -
Caveat: noob here. Nose is sweet and simple… maybe cherry and vanilla? Palette is lots of rye spice, but not overpowering despite being 110 proof. The warmth is really nice on the slow mid mouth finish (cheeks feel warm and slightly numb). On a big rock, it almost gets spicier, but the nose and ethanol are toned down. Weirdly I think the rye flavor punches higher on a rock.

Maker's Mark Private Selection Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed October 16, 2021 (edited October 29, 2022)110 proof is kind a tough. It really overwhelmed the flavors from the staves. We had 03052. Over ice, it really mellows and some of sweeter flavors come through. -
Woodford Reserve Double Oaked
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed October 14, 2021 (edited October 19, 2021)Caveat, I’m a noob. Nose has caramel, a little cherry and spice. Palette is warm and thick. It’s rich and creamy with spice and caramel. The lingering warmth is so delightful. -
Evan Williams White Label Bottled in Bond Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed October 14, 2021 (edited October 29, 2021)Great mixer… it’s hard to pick out much on the nose and the palette is spiky on the tip of the tongue and quickly turns to a general warmth. -
Evan Williams White Label Bottled in Bond Bourbon

Reviewed October 13, 2021 (edited January 3, 2022)Tried this neat and wasn’t impressed… too chemically on the nose and on the palette… but over ice… man, what a perfectly gentle and smooth drink. The ice tones down the spiky edges and you’re left with classic low proof bourbon perfect for a simple supper. It’s not going to blow your hair back, but it’s not going to be complicated or uncomfortable either. I was mad I spent $20 on a one-and-done bottle when I tried it neat, but delighted I have another great mixer to rival my favorite Rittenhouse in Manhattans and Old Fashioneds going forward. -
Old Forester 1920 Prohibition Style
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed October 13, 2021 (edited October 19, 2021)Caveat: I’m a noob! Nose is ethanol and sweetness. Maybe caramel or Worther’s Original. The palette is spiky and hot. It’s mid-mouth with a relatively quick burn off to a mild warmth that brings in some Smokey notes. Dumped half onto a big cube to see how it changed… man, it really is a totally different drink. It smooths and mellows so much and just has a really pleasant classic bourbon warmth without any burn or sting. Doubt I’ll make a habit of putting OF1920 in a cocktail, but I bet it would be great.
