This is my 3rd or 4th time tasting this and I still can’t figure it out. On the nose I get carmel and some fruit like bananas. Maybe a tiny bit of vanilla and some woody notes. Sipping I get a lot more oak and nuts on top of the fruity, banana-y, flavors. It’s quite smooth. I didn’t love it at first but it has grown on me. I recently tried a Hayes Parker bourbon and was pretty disappointed. Unfortunately, this is reminiscent of that. However I think I’m getting over it and learning to appreciate this EW Single Barrel for what it is. For the price, it’s a great 8 year packed with taste. I don’t love earthy bourbons, but this one seems to grow on me as I give it more chances.30.0 USD per Bottle

Very sweet on the nose. Can’t pick out many flavors though. Sipping, the first flavor that hits me is cinnamon. A little bit of apple in there. Essentially just fireball. Too sweet with lots of cinamon. Not my favorite by any standard. Bought this because it apparently won some awards in past years but I don’t quite see how. Theres better bourbons for the price.

Wicked Dolphin Brewer's Series Double Barrel-Cigar City
Aged Rum — Florida, USA
Reviewed June 2, 2019This is the first real rum I’ve sat down to taste and explore. As an avid whiskey drinker this rum is certainly a pleaser for me. On the nose there is heavy lemon/citrus and oak. Sipping I get a good amount of oak and spices. There is a slight vanilla that comes, being reminiscent of a whiskey, but still very heavy on the spice and oak. I really dig this rum and it has set high expectation for future rums. -
One of my favorites from my shelf lately. Not very traditional. Pretty odd, if I’m being honest but it’s a nice “off the beaten path” whisky. On the nose I get butterscotch and caramel. Sipping I’m confronted with the butterscotch and caramel with and almost kettle corn note. Light smoke with a deep complex savory flavor. As a 92-proof the finish is moderate with a wonderful tasty lingering.

Auchentoshan American Oak
Single Malt — Lowlands, Scotland
Reviewed May 8, 2019 (edited June 2, 2022)Very oaky and vanilla on the nose. Tried it with some ice to melt and open the flavor as I sip. Felt almost too sweet. Lots of vanilla still and hints of coconut with cinnamon and some citrus. Can’t figure out if it’s oily or not. Doesn’t seem to slowly slip down the side of the glass but feels oily on the tongue. Feels like it can’t make up it’s mind between bourbon or scotch. Underwhelmed this time, but I have a whole bottle so I’ll keep trying. -
Tullamore D.E.W. XO Caribbean Rum Finish
Blended — Ireland
Reviewed May 8, 2019 (edited May 31, 2019)Smell, at first, is hard to place. Sweet and fruity for sure. After a few sips the smell becomes more prominent. Very strong banana and some vanilla. In terms of taste, the banana is pretty forward. Hints of coconut and Carmel notes with some citrus on the end. The finish is long, strong and rummy. I’m not a huge rum-guy, but I love the rum after taste this leaves. If you’re looking for a different, fun whisky, this is a good choice.
