The color is a vibrant gold with legs that slowly work their way down the glass. The nose is a perfect balance of earthy rye spiciness and ice wine sweetness alongside corn and cereal sweetness. The palate is somewhat oily and full of oak and ice wine with an earthy rye spiciness alongside it. The finish is medium with the sweetness lingering while the earthiness fades. Very simple but excellent.

WhistlePig FarmStock Rye Crop No. 002
Rye — Multiple Countries
Reviewed November 13, 2019 (edited April 17, 2022)The nose is soft with floral rye spiciness with notes of buttery vanilla and oak, while the younger aspect of the blend presents some raw herbal notes. The palate is very subtle and opens up with oak and vanilla with the rye trailing behind it, with the youth again showing itself coming in at the end with a sharp earth spiciness. The finish is medium with a lingering floral rye spiciness with a raw spiciness sticking to the mouth. Overall it’s too subtle in all aspects and the blend of aged and young whiskey seems to be at a bit of a conflict. -
George T. Stagg Bourbon (Fall 2019)
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed November 12, 2019 (edited September 3, 2020)The color is a deep amber and coats the glass more like a curtain rather than legs. The nose is very oaky upfront with baking spices providing a very pleasant spiciness while caramel apple, powdered sugar, vanilla, brown sugar and rye round it out. The palate is very dry but rich and leaves you chewing on oak and vanilla while the sweetness from the nose is well tamed. Mild caramel and brown sugar present themselves while there is a rye spiciness holding everything together. The finish is long and spicy with lingering oak and vanilla and the rest of the palate melds together and fades nicely. Perfect. -
Michter's US*1 Toasted Barrel Sour Mash Whiskey (2019 Release)
Other Whiskey — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed November 12, 2019The color is a rich brownish amber with any movement leaving heavy legs sticking to the sides of the glass. The nose is very gentle but full of oak, cooked caramel, vanilla, molasses and just a hint of floral rye notes. The oak carries over strongly to the palate with molasses balancing it out, as cooked caramel and vanilla play backup. The finish is medium and very oaky where you can really taste the toast as the rest of the palate fades, albeit a bit too quick. Simple but flavorful, if the finish somewhat let’s down the experience. -
The color is a deep reddish amber and with a swirl it coats the glass in legs that cling to the sides of the glass and never leave. The nose starts with floral rye, sweet molasses, charred oak, brown sugar and cinnamon infused vanilla. The palate has a pleasant mustiness to it while what you got on the nose subtlety introduces itself with just a touch of rye spiciness, charred oak, vanilla and cinnamon, with brown sugar and molasses offering the smallest hint of sweetness. The finish is medium with a lingering cinnamon spiciness with fading oak and vanilla. The palate could stand to live up a bit more to what you sense on the nose, with the flavors all being there but a touch too subtle. Despite this, it still makes for a great sipper.

Joseph Magnus Prav Saraff Hand Selected
Bourbon — Indiana, USA
Reviewed November 10, 2019 (edited December 9, 2019)The color is a beautiful dark amber that coats the glass in heavy legs. The nose starts with cherry cola, mild baking spices, charred oak and buttery caramel. Charred oak and vanilla open up on the palate and is quickly followed by cherry cola and intense baking spices, wrapping up in a rich and buttery mouth feel. The palate melts away for a finish is medium long with oak and cinnamon that lingers alongside a fading creaminess. It is a wonderful sipper with a complex palate and a simple but wonderful finish. -
The color is a very rich amber and with a swirl it clings to the class and stays there. It is an interesting mashbill of 65% corn, 13% spelt, 11% wheat, 6% wheat malt and 5% barely malt. On the nose it is somewhat earthy and chocolatey, with oak, vanilla custard and hints of lemon zest and caramel, along with a salty meatiness that comes out as it breathes. The palate is full of vanilla and oak with dark chocolate and rich custard following, creating a rich mouthfeel. Baking spices follow along with pepper and a spiciness that is reminiscent of rye. The finish of medium long with a lingering vanilla and spicy oak, with fading baking spices. The unique mashbill makes it difficult to pinpoint what each grain is contributing, but it comes together in a brilliant way. Aftersniff: This aftersniff is an experience. Remnants of salmon cling to the nostrils. Subtle hints of hamster bedding ruminate throughout. The post-aftersniff is similar to a warm apple pie that your dog knocked off the table on a frenzy. It makes your tastebuds scream, “slap my britches and call me pappy!” Not bad, but unexpected.

The nose opens with cedar, dry oak, vanilla, bread dough, leather and a touch of spearmint and clove. The palate is gentle and it as dry as expected as it is somewhat chewy, but full of vanilla and rich custard, cinnamon, pepper, dry oak and is somewhat leathery. The finish is medium long with a lingering spiciness that holds on while dry oak, vanilla and spearmint fade, while remaining rich. Not as overwhelming as you might think for it’s age, with the oak qualities kept well under control. The high corn content shines through with how sweet this bourbon is, but is nicely balanced and makes for an easy sipper.

The nose is fragrant with rye spices along with vanilla, allspice, dry oak, vanilla and orange. Orange and allspice full the mouth, followed by vanilla, rye and a touch of oak. The finish is medium with no burn despite the 100 proof, and has fading vanilla and orange while the allspice provides a pleasant spicy mouthfeel.
