Tastes

Sweet caramel and vanilla, a bit of corn and some charred barrel notes. Somewhat spicy but overall gentle on the palate. Excellent value for the price ($26 CAD).

Classic bourbon taste of vanilla and brown sugar, maybe a little fruitiness (pear?), strong barrel note, a little black pepper, and a pleasant alcohol bite. Rich and viscous, you can tell it hasn't been watered down much.

Nothing wrong with this NAS offering, but I had higher hopes for a bottle carrying the Highland Park name. $45 CAD feels like a bit too much for what's in the bottle, even if it is amongst the cheapest single malts around these parts.

My standard drink in dive bars, but not something I'd get for myself.

A solid Irish blend, and a perfectly pleasant sipper. Nothing special, but also nothing offensive. I'd recommend this over Jameson, but it doesn't quite match up with Tullamore DEW.

Bold and rich flavours on the palate, but an unfortunate medicinal finish. I'd recommend the standard Alberta Premium over the Dark Horse.

Sweet and fruity on the nose, smooth and pleasantly spicy on the palate. Probably the best bottom-dollar Canadian whisky available.

A good example of a classic bourbon. Expertly balanced with emphasis on vanilla and caramel. Distinctly reminds me of Bailey's Irish Cream. However, it's not quite worth the markup in Canada ($50).
