At Double Helix in Las Vegas, this won my personal taste test vs. 12y, 18y and the Nadurra 16 because it was smoothest and richest. The first whiff is almost non-existent then it hits you about a second later with butter and toffee and cinnamon. It has a long milky mouthfeel and is an all-around enjoyable spirit that should be proudly represent Speyside in my home bar.

Auchentoshan Three Wood
Single Malt — Lowlands, Scotland
Reviewed May 20, 2015 (edited July 19, 2015)Lost in a head to head bs Clynelish 14 but worthy in its own merit because it was darker, richer and smoother but only lacked a little punch. It's kind of like your little brother, it will put up a fight but lose when put to the test but will always be one of the family -
McCarthy's Oregon Single Malt
American Single Malt — Oregon, USA
Reviewed May 7, 2015 (edited July 16, 2015)As in the spirit of the Northwest, I admire this whiskey to mimic a style I love dearly. To import peated malted barley from Scotland and age it for 3 years takes a lot of guts and I like that. It would be interesting to see how it stacks up against Islay scotches in a blind tasting. I thought it was smooth enough and reminded me of a lighter Islay like Bowmore. The question of whether or not it's better than the real thing is yet to be determined. -
Think sitting beside the fireplace on a cold night. Not for the faint of heart with regards to peatiness as it made my eyes water with too big of a sip. I bought a bottle because of its reputation and its darn good but not worth it's price. Don't get me wrong, it's solid, smoky, warming, full of spice and cinnamon and oaky to its core.

Michter's US*1 Toasted Barrel Finish Bourbon (2014 Release)
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed March 3, 2015 (edited November 14, 2018)Anything toasted has my undivided attention including bread. I was rooting for this to supersede the Unblended Michter but it didn't. It was a strong #2 and would drink it again and again
