Lagavulin Offerman Edition Guinness Cask Finish
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed March 10, 2022 (edited June 29, 2022)The nose has a fruity sweetness mixed with musty wood that sat out in the rain. It leans more tropical fruit than deep red fruit, with a slight nutty flavor, maybe a little coconut. The smoke come through on first sip, but the underlying notes are heavy with chocolate and tobacco. It finishes oily and thick but not overpowering, and the peat fades fast which I prefer to it sticking. A definite malty texture comes across from the Guinness aging, it’s not just a gimmick. Absolutely superb, probably my favorite peat forward scotch, and a vast upgrade from the Lagavulin House Lannister edition I started the night with. -

Elijah Craig Barrel Proof Bourbon Batch A122
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed March 2, 2022 (edited March 14, 2022)The nose has a smoky oak note, not along the line of a scotch, more burnt wood that has cooled from the campfire the night before. Tobacco and a table sugar sweetness come through as well. The first sip has a bright spice, with clove and a little lemon zest citrus cutting through the sweet notes of vanilla cream. It finishes a bit thin and peppery due to the proof, but is remarkably drinkable without any added water. Well worth the few extra bucks it took to get my hands on.
