Maker's Mark Wood Finishing Series 2022 BRT-02
Bourbon — Kentucky , USA
Reviewed March 18, 2023 (edited August 20, 2023)Nose is much richer on this than BRT-01. This reads dark and rich hot cocoa in front of the Maker's sweet apply profile. It makes my mouth water. Chocolate hits big mid-late and feels very thick in the mouth. Quickly spicy as well, at first fading but then hanging on with the chocolate in the finish. Maker's fruit is barely discernible. Between the two in this series, much more distinctive. After letting both 01 and 02 sit a few weeks, my impressions don't change. 02 is heavy on chocalate and hot spice, a cross of chili and clove, differentiating itself from other Maker's. Hoeever, on final analysis, the heavy cocoa and spice are too bitter, significantly affecting the experience.60.0 USD per Bottle -
Maker's Mark Wood Finishing Series 2022 BRT-01
Bourbon — Kentucky , USA
Reviewed March 18, 2023 (edited March 21, 2023)Classic Maker's nose, carameled apple, maybe sweeter. Hints of cherry, straw, and leather are also present. Palate is on point as well, adding bitter chocolate and fall spice. Kerosene, which I often get with Maker's is also there but to a lesser extent. Finish lingers with the chocolate and the spices bring a nice burn, but it is a bit too bitter. Bolder than standard cask strength, but not distinctively so. A bit of a disappointment. I'll be interested to see if it opens up some as the bottle sits. After letting this sit for a few weeks, I i no longer read bitterness on the finish, but still think it doesn't distinguish itself enough from stabdard cask strength. The addition of chocolate is nice, however. On final analysis, I do prefer this to BRT-02, which is too bitter.60.0 USD per Bottle -
Larceny Barrel Proof Bourbon Batch B522
Bourbon — USA
Reviewed February 13, 2023 (edited February 14, 2023)Nose is light. Apples, with a touch of pine, smoke, and fall spices. Palate is closer to tart cherry pie with a dry chocolatey finish. This is fine but not among my favorites in the Larceny BP series. Might be just in my head but the B's always seem to be my least favorite every year. -
Elijah Craig Barrel Proof Bourbon Batch C922
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed February 4, 2023 (edited April 12, 2023)Nose is sweet bubble gum with a hint of fruit and mint. Palate is very good, sweet, fruity, and a spice bomb. Long finish and hot chest. This is the best of Elijah Craig for 2022.70.0 USD per Bottle -
Chicken Cock Kentucky Straight Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky , USA
Reviewed January 21, 2023 (edited June 10, 2023)Nose is fairly light, but multi-layered. I get leather, oak, and caramelled apples. Palate is similar, adding cinnamon. Finish is dry and short, but pleasant. Normally in the high 50's, I got this on sale for $46. For the price would like it to have been 10-20 proof points higher. It would have helped the profile as well. Price aside, for a 90 proof whiskey, it is very good.46.0 USD per Bottle -
This is sourced from Green River, purchased on line from Seelbachs, premise being barrels that are low or "short" in fluid. Nose is light, with chocolate, leather, pepper, and cedar. Oily in the mouth, hot cayenne pepper hits first and lingers on the perimeter of the tongue, turning toward hot cinnamon candies toward the end. Cocoa is present in the background and comes forward as the spice starts to fade. Very warm chest.45.0 USD per Bottle

Four Roses Private Selection Single Barrel Barrel Strength Bourbon (OESQ)
Bourbon — Kentucky , USA
Reviewed December 25, 2022 (edited November 2, 2024)12/22, 10 yrs 9 mos, 116.8 proof-Beautiful spice nose, strong clove with a touch of cardamom and allspice. Alcohol fills the nostrils. Palate follows with a hot hit of cinnamon added. As the heat fades, this turns into a yeasty cinnamon sugar doughnut. Nice warmth in the chest lingers. The only drawback is the finish turns slightly dry and bitter. Mouth waters in response and finishes with French toast, however.80.0 USD per BottleHy-Vee
