Russell's Reserve Single Barrel Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed July 26, 2020 (edited August 10, 2020)Had a Garfield’s store pick. Strong and sweet but smooth. Nose of oak, honey and caramel. Big oak and leather flavors up front. Back end has honey, caramel and a potpourri of floral. Heat throughout but not overpowering. The burn lasts just long enough to be pleasant. A great sipper at 110 proof. -
Nose has big leather and oak. First sip has front and back of mouth burn. Vanilla, leather, cherry...big flavors with a solid burn. Definitely more flavor than you’d expect for a 100 proof at this price. Big burn but a flavor profile to match. A few drops of water increases the rye on the nose but the burn dips a bit to be more manageable. Not the best sipper straight, but for the price, accessibility, and proofing, it’s a good drink.

Smooth from start to finish. Very sweet with notes of vanilla, caramel and leather on the nose. Flavor has just a hint of orange with a nice, but tempered oaky burn. Some more leather and tobacco on the back with a smooth finish. A bit of water kills the burn but keeps the sweetness but where’s the fun with no burn? At only 4 years, this is a wonderful addition to a neat bourbon drinker’s collection.

New Riff Kentucky Straight Bourbon Bottled In Bond
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed April 24, 2020 (edited May 2, 2020)Leather and oak on the nose. Hi rye. Bright and vibrant flavor. A bit buttery with hints of honey, caramel and vanilla. No burn for 100 proof. Flavor lasts longer than expected though. A splash of water adds a floral note but it’s better neat. A great entry at only 4 years. -
Tasted in a glencairn glass. Sweet initial undertones. Light mouth feel. A bit watery with a harsh burn up front and down the throat. Notes of toasted oak, caramel, and honey. A single cube lightens the burn but kills the flavor too. Drink it neat, enjoy the hug. For the price, you can’t beat this whiskey.

Very Old Barton 100 Proof Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed December 13, 2019 (edited September 7, 2020)Carmel and oak on the nose. Heavy woodsy smell with a burn anticipation before the first sip. Soft vanilla and caramel with light tobacco. First sip is burn followed by burn all the way down. An ice cube doesn’t cut the rye, just seems to bring out more spice. A decent pour for the price, but I’d rather spend a few bucks more and get something more palatable.
