Strong green apple on the nose. A bit of citrus. Green apple and damp saw dust. Strong rye spice. A bit of the breadiness of Old Bardstown and the apple flavors of Johnny Drum, but I think that as of right now I like both of those better. Maybe it will grow on me like the Old Bardstown. The finish has sour apple, copper, sawdust.

Woodford Reserve Double Oaked
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed July 28, 2019 (edited August 11, 2019)Delightful nose full of vanilla and some kind of sweet spice I can't place. Sweet, full body some vanilla and a lot of cocoa. It has a savory element- almost like barbecued meat - probably from the barrel char. It's got a nice round finish with a bit of wood and a lot more of the cocoa/barbecue flavor. This gets extra points for being easy to find while not being overly expensive. There are better bourbons at this price point, but very few are readily available in most areas. -
Refreshing nose, caramel and barrel char. Mellow and a bit grassy flavor. Tasted it alongside EH small batch, which seems a bit more forward, whereas this seems a bit more citrusy and delicate. There are nice strong caramel notes, with possibly some marshmallow in the finish, but this seems like a lighter flavored bourbon. It's good, but I wouldn't pay a premium for it.

Basil Hayden's Caribbean Reserve Rye (Discontinued)
Rye — Multiple Countries
Reviewed July 22, 2019 (edited September 3, 2019)Awful. I could not stand to drink it straight. I had to end up mixing it with coke and even in a 12 ounce can of coke the rum flavor was overpowering. The rum flavor was just WAY too much. It tastes more "rummy" than drinking straight rum neat. This is probably the most disappointing bottle that I've purchased in recent memory. The more I drank it, the less I liked it. I will not buy again, and I'd caution those who are considering buying it - try it first unless you REALLY like blackstrap rum. -
Nice vanilla flavor balances out a mellowed but still spicy rye bite. It has the characteristic fruitiness that I associate with bulleit. Some barrel notes. It's got a bit of dry wood and smokiness in the finish. Note overly complex, but well balanced with a great flavor profile. This is a really pleasant and drinkable whiskey. If this was more readily available, this could very easily become my go to whiskey in this price range.

Fiery and hot, even with water, with lots of rye spice. With a bit of water, very rich, long lasting vanilla, a hint of tobacco maybe? Nice sweetness, brown sugar and butter flavor, which contrasts nicely with the vanilla. Kind of like good chocolate chip cookie dough, sans chips, but hot from the rye. It has a luxurious, full mouth feel - it really is buttery. I'd say drink it really slow, let it rest 10-15 minutes before really digging into it. The flavors open up more with time. I hit the jackpot with this one. This virtually jumps to the top of my favorite whiskey list, and I know it might be a long time before a bottle like this crosses my path again.
