Glenfiddich Project XX
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed October 3, 2020 (edited July 23, 2021)Take a sip, and fall back into a burst of relaxation and satisfaction. On the nose: your favourite fruit basket with a side of vanilla, honey, and some roasted oak. The palate: smooth refreshing taste of Apple, apricot, pear, and maybe some cherry. The perfect blend of vanilla and oak with a drizzle of honey. The flavour is incredibly balanced and as it goes down is nice and smooth. The finish is a medium taste, not too heavy or light (you could say just right), with the question remaining “where have you been all my life?” -
Glenfiddich IPA Experiment
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed October 3, 2020 (edited November 14, 2020)A very unique Scotch, light and balanced as you would expect for Glenfiddich. On the nose; floral with some fruit, a bit of citrus. On the palate; a nice mouthful of fruit with some floral notes. I taste apple and rose, wish some lemon citrus following. A bit of spice arrives, but as it goes down you recognize it’s not spice-but the familiar IPA taste. The finish is light and smooth. Very balanced, with that IPA flavour lingering. A lovely Scotch, but not for me. If I wanted beer I would have reached for an Innis & Gunn. -
Auchentoshan 12 Year
Single Malt — Lowlands, Scotland
Reviewed September 25, 2020 (edited February 4, 2021)“If you like Tomatin, you’ll enjoy this!” Words first spoken to me when I was introduced to Auchentoshan. The citrus beer of Scotch. On the nose, a beautiful bouquet of floral notes mixed with orange citrus notes. On the palate, a fresh orange peel combined with vanilla and rose pedal. This scotch goes down very smooth, with a nice flavourful finish. Any fan of Highland should venture into the Lowlands, and this bottle is a great place to start. -
Aberfeldy 12 Year
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed September 16, 2020 (edited November 9, 2020)Burn a walnut and drizzle on some honey and a bit of caramel. This is a nice highland scotch, smooth and light as you would expect for the region. Aged 12 years in Oak casks produce a lovely Oaky flavour. On the palate a bit of nut with caramel and honey comes through, Oak taking over on the way down. An easy drinking Scotch, but not much depth. Good starter Scotch IMO. -
Crown Royal Northern Harvest Rye
Canadian — Manitoba, Canada
Reviewed August 24, 2020 (edited September 27, 2020)A complex Whiskey that has a lot to offer. Winner of the 2016 best Whiskey Award. My experience was similar to that of a highly awarded movie. A lot of hype, but does not always meet the individual viewers satisfaction. On the nose; maple syrup! Some fruit - apple, pear with apricot come across. Some vanilla, and a bit of cinnamon. On the palate: strong fruit notes (more so than I expected), some vanilla and caramel is tasted. The initial taste I find fruity with a nice maple note, however as you continue to drink it the maple disappears. It is a very easy drinking whisky with a smooth and sweet taste as it goes down. The finish: I’ll be honest, I was a tad disappointed here... a bit of spice, smooth, sweet, and not much of a burn. Did not taste as much maple as I would have liked. Enjoyable bottle, the ending just seemed to miss the mark for me. Felt like one of those “it was all a dream” the ending just does not seem to do it justice IMO. -
This is sitting by the fire on a nice summers night in a bottle. The nose is a glorious smoke typical of most Islay, however not as strong or overpowering as others. The palate is a delicious smoked meat, with some lovely fruit stuffed on the side, I taste pear & apple. It starts off smooth and light, but comes in heavy as it goes down. Great taste of smoke with little spice. Easy to drink, it’s understandable why this bottle has won awards.

Tomatin 12 Year Bourbon & Sherry Casks
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed August 19, 2020 (edited February 27, 2022)An interesting bottle, initial taste had me thinking I was drinking a lowland region dram. The nose is more exciting here, smells of floral and fruits. The taste is nice and light, flavour of apricot, followed by a leather finish on its way down. -
