Sweet aroma, with vanilla, caramel or toffee, and a very nice hint of cotton candy. Sweet, rich flavor on the palette, with vanilla, caramel or toffee, a bit of alcohol burn, orange zest, and then brown sugar. Orange zest and that nice hint of cotton candy linger in the finish. 3 cl sample from The Premium Whisky Advent Calendar (2020 Edition).

Pleasant aroma, with a fairly light amount of peat smoke. The peat smoke is stronger on the palette, but it’s still relatively mild. Iodine appears in the long finish. The port influence may appear in the color, but I honestly don’t smell or taste it. It’s a good enough whisky, but I was surprised when I looked it up to see how much a full-size bottle costs. I’d rather spend that money on something else. 3 cl sample from The Premium Whisky Advent Calendar (2020 Edition).

My first Swedish whisky. The aroma is relatively clean, but unremarkable. The taste is initially sweet, but then quickly changes to something earthy and rather unpleasant, like some sort of mushroom. I don’t think I’ve ever experienced this flavor in whisky before, and I’m not a fan. 3 cl sample from The Premium Whisky Advent Calendar (2020 Edition).

Kavalan Ex-Bourbon Oak Single Malt
Single Malt — Taiwan
Reviewed May 13, 2021 (edited June 11, 2022)My first Taiwanese whisky. The aroma and flavor are rather generic. There’s oak and vanilla, plus some floral and fruity elements. It’s pleasant enough, but having sampled it I certainly wouldn’t spend $110 on a bottle. 3 cl sample from The Premium Whisky Advent Calendar (2020 Edition). -
My first Indian whisky. There’s moderate peak smoke in the nose. There’s a much stronger wallop of peat on the palette, followed by a sweet surge of flavor, and then it becomes much dryer in the finish, with plenty of BAND-AID flavor and iodine lingering for a long time, and smoke as you lick your lips. 3 cl sample from The Premium Whisky Advent Calendar (2020 Edition).

It’s got a relatively light aroma of oak and vanilla, which makes the thick, oily mouthfeel and very rich, spicy rye flavor all the more surprising. There’s significant alcohol burn. A slash of water tempers this, but it also brings out the rather dry finish. 3 cl sample from The Premium Whisky Advent Calendar (2020 Edition).

Sweet aroma with caramel and brown sugar dominant. Strong, rich flavor, with caramel, rye spice, clove, a bit of butter, and a lot of oak present. An unusual dram, but a very nice one. Best Canadian whiskey I’ve had so far. I’d certainly buy a full-size bottle. 3 cl sample from The Premium Whisky Advent Calendar (2020 Edition).
