Laphroaig Cairdeas 200th Anniversary Edition
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed January 26, 2017 (edited August 11, 2017)I'm in love. Not as medicinal as the typical 10 year, it maintains its Laphroig roots with strong peaty briny notes, but the change here is a wonderful caramel/Apple note throughout. This is wonderful. -
Auchentoshan 12 Year
Single Malt — Lowlands, Scotland
Reviewed January 26, 2017 (edited April 24, 2018)Fruity & woody malts. Gentle finish, with a rich sherry sweetness. Lovely Scotch. -
Bib & Tucker 6 Year Small Batch Bourbon
Bourbon — USA
Reviewed January 26, 2017 (edited March 7, 2017)This wasn't too shabby! Nice bit of bourbon bite, but a very sweet bourbon; not overly sweet necessarily, but a bit like candy without the depth & body I'd want. Char, vanilla, & a bit of dried fruit are the highlights. -
Haig Club Single Grain
Single Grain — Lowlands, Scotland
Reviewed December 10, 2016 (edited April 24, 2018)Nose is honey, bit of butter. Palate is honey, butter, hint of spice, like white pepper. For a single grain, it's interesting, but the weak body & relatively quick finish leave me wanting some depth. -
Ardbeg Uigeadail
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed September 27, 2016 (edited October 15, 2016)Incredible, and a flavor bomb. Strong peat & campfire smoke presence, which leads to a slightly sweet tobacco & caramel flavor. The sherry influence is present but not overpowering in the long, lingering finish. One of my favorites. -
James E. Pepper 1776 Straight Rye (100 Proof)
Rye — Indiana (bottled in Kentucky), USA
Reviewed May 4, 2016Spicy rye, with quite the peppery kick. Full body, & the finish could be more interesting. Not bad, & a straightforward rye, but not super exciting.
