Willett Family Estate Small Batch Rye 4 Year
Rye — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed July 29, 2015 (edited February 11, 2016)If you're looking for a serious sipping rye whiskey, this is the one to get. Even in its 2-year infancy, this is a very respectable (and delicious) expression. The usual cereal, cinnamon, and peppery spice you'd expect, but with a smooth high-rye bourbon mash finish. In other words, this one has the spice and the smooth, without all that sweet corn getting in the way. One word review: balance. -
Elmer T. Lee Single Barrel Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed July 29, 2015 (edited November 4, 2015)This has to be one of the better sippers on the market. Incredibly smooth and dangerously hard to put down. The perfect blend of sweet and spicy. This is the one bottle my wife and I always agree on. Nose is sweet and fragrant. First sip gives a little bite, but this dram definitely evens out as you return to the glass. If this were a hard candy, you'd definitely chew into it prematurely; it's that good. And of course the finish coats like a hot toddy on a cold, winter night. Buy this one, and don't tell your friends; you'll want it all for yourself. -
I'm halfway through my second bottle of this one. That first crack of the cork is very heavy on the green apple. This one is especially smooth due to the extra French Oak aging and I feel it loses a lot of the 12-year Glenlivet bite that I enjoy so much. Nonetheless, this is a light and smooth sipper, that will take you on a wild journey from sour apple to French vanilla.
