Hey these things actually open and don’t just sell for outrageous prices on secondary! This is the new release from the Weller line. Aged 8 years, 95 proof, and stored on the top floor of the rick house. Picked up for $45 Nose: Picking up mostly light fruity notes, more specifically citrus. Not a great deal different from WSR, but the flavors are more pronounced. Taste: Tasting this alongside WSR to keep myself in check. Oh yeah, this is a sweet one. Cherry, caramel, and vanilla are the three main players in this one. Mint follows behind them all as a secondary player. Finish: This is where CYPB blows WSR out of the water. Whereas WSR has a pretty short finish, CYPB has nice caramel notes that linger on for awhile after swallowing. Again, mint notes follow behind, but the caramel is the leading flavor. Overall: Yeah this is good. I’d grab this all day for $45, but definitely not for the $350 it’s been going for on secondary. Probably my favorite of the Weller line, granted I didn’t care for W12 too much. Cheers!

Colonel E.H. Taylor, Jr. Barrel Proof Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed September 26, 2018 (edited October 9, 2020)Colonel E.H Taylor Barrel Proof 129.7 proof Pour at a bar since I can never find a bottle. $16/2oz pour Nose: fresh raspberries are the first thing I immediately pick up on. Honestly smells like a boozy raspberry pie. Really nice pastry notes to accompany the fruit. Blueberries and vanilla also make an appearance. Probably the most berry forward nose I’ve experienced in a bourbon. Let’s see if these fruit notes carry over to the palate. Palate: lots of spice off the bat. I suspect a fair amount of rye went into this mashbill. Blueberries carry over to the palate more than the raspberries. Big hit of mouth-drying oak upon delivery. With a little water, vanilla comes out in decent doses. Finish: medium finish length. Vanilla carries over from the palate and lingers for a while. Not getting any of the previous fruity notes from the nose and palate. Overall: man, I wish I could find a bottle of this stuff. So far I’ve only been able to get the small batch and single barrel offerings. The barrel proof has to be my favorite that I’ve tried from the EH Taylor line so far. The nose is the standout here for me. The berry/bakery scents just come up every time I go for a sniff. Very enjoyable bourbon overall. Cheers! -
Knob Creek 25th Anniversary Single Barrel Reserve
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed September 26, 2018 (edited November 3, 2018)Knob Creek 25th Anniversary Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey Single Barrel 61% ABV Barreled date: 5/13/2004 13 years old 300 barrels produced Nose: butterscotch, dark fruits, baked goods Taste: right off the bat a big purple grape flavor which I’ve never picked out of a bourbon before. Loving how this one feels. Other sweet fruits, oak, and cinnamon accompany the grape burst. Finish: big Kentucky hug, but the actual flavors from the palate don’t stick around very long. Much shorter than expected for a 13 year old bourbon. Overall: definitely a unique Knob Creek offering, but I’ve had better KC SiB store picks that have also been aged longer and have a much longer finish. Worth the $130 price tag? Nope, find a trusted store and grab one of their KC picks instead -
Tastes a bit young, maybe 4-5 years. Very sweet. That young corn flavor hits immediately, which initially reminded me of some younger craft bourbons, but it has a pleasant finish that younger bourbons have reached yet. I usually reach for something above 100 proof but this is pretty solid for 83 proof

Jack Daniel's Single Barrel Barrel Proof Tennessee Whiskey
Tennessee Whiskey — Tennessee, USA
Reviewed March 15, 2018 (edited May 2, 2020)Bottled at 132.7 proof. Nose: great sweetness of vanilla and caramel. Classic bourbon notes. Probably one of the strongest caramel scents I’ve gotten from a bourbon. Mouthfeel: thick, mouth-drying, oily. Palate: tastes just like it smells. I could hold this caramel-y, vanilla-y deliciousness in my mouth all day. Finish: so long and rich. As o keep swallowing the flavors just keep sticking around. Overall: this is the first Jack Daniels product I’ve ever bought. From what I’ve heard this is far and away better than their standard offerings. This is just such a classic, sweet bourbon that would be a great barrel proof intro for bourbon lovers trying to get into barrel proof bourbons. I would love to keep this bottle in my cabinet always -
Nose: Smooth vanilla and oak come through. Subtle nutty notes. Sour apple as well after a few nosings. Mouthfeel: medium, a bit oily. I really like this Palate: vanilla, milk chocolate. Pretty sweet Finish: medium length finish. Overall: pretty decent for the price. I still have yet to find something that can beat OGD 114 in the sub $50 category. You’d be better off getting the 1792 SiB for a few more bucks
