Compass Box Hedonism
Blended Grain — ScotlandReviewed July 19, 2020 (edited November 14, 2020)Very floral nose. Body is quite different from nose. Very full body. Lots of notes of baked breads. Rum cake is a very apt description.
Bua Irish Whiskey Small Batch
Blended — IrelandReviewed July 19, 2020 (edited June 14, 2021)Nice earthy nose. A sweet caramel undertone and butterscotch. Bright body that's quite vegetal and sweet. Some celery. And some rosewater. Best Irish whiskey I've had.
Hudson Baby Bourbon
Bourbon — New York, USAReviewed July 17, 2020Was hoping for more out of this. It really is super strong on the corn. A bit salty at the beginning and then moves into the vanilla notes. The body is straight corn was a silage like finish. Quite smooth for 46%, which makes it easy sipping. But find myself wishing there was a bit less corn.59.99 USD per Bottle
J. Riddle Peated Bourbon
Bourbon — Michigan, USAReviewed May 9, 2020Not sure where to begin with this one. It smells like a barn and kind of tastes like one. You get the corn and earthiness but with the smokiness from the peat, it just throws it way off. Super unbalanced with a pretty odd combination that is just a bit wacky, for lack of a better term. I get a lot of petrol notes mostly on the finish. But also a little on the attack before corn comes through. The mid pallet does have some interesting spiciness and you get the wood and vanilla from the cask but because of everything else going on it's just a weird experience. And unfortunately, not one that I will likely return to.30.0 USD per Bottle
Wollersheim Round Top Rye
Rye — Wisconsin, USAReviewed May 8, 2020There's a lot of flavors going on here and it's quite forward and unapologetic. You have to be ready for a stiff drink, but there's a pleasant sweetness to it and the barrels are quite nice as well. A nice and spicy + vanilla combo.
Glenlivet 14 Year Cognac Cask Selection
Single Malt — Speyside, ScotlandReviewed February 17, 2020 (edited June 19, 2020)Nose makes me think it's hotter than 40%. A little bit of cinnamon and branded cherries on nose. I get an immediate hit of apple juice that brings in some butterscotch as it lingers. Feels a little looser in the middle and then does finish quite hot. Definitely cooked apples and vanilla on finish. Tasted from a sampler in a Glenlivet 12.
Brothership 10 Year Irish-American Whiskey
Other Whiskey — Multiple CountriesReviewed February 1, 2020 (edited June 9, 2021)A bit of honey with it quite floral nose. A little vanilla. Fairly thick, and almost up muted pickle juice in the background. Sweetness of dried cherries over the top, with oak. Hint of spice to finish.50.0 USD per Bottle
Laphroaig Quarter Cask
Peated Single Malt — Islay, ScotlandReviewed December 25, 2019Really surprised by the profile for a Laphroaig. Lots of vanilla and overall sweetness rather than peat and smoke. There's a touch at finish, but you'd be forgiven if you missed it.
Balvenie Portwood 21 Year
Single Malt — Speyside, ScotlandReviewed December 25, 2019It's the layers of flavor that I'm loving. You get the sweet, smooth vanilla but also the spicy notes at finish. Sometimes the dark fruit is forward - plum and grapes - while others it's the lighter honey and wildflowers. Let it linger to embrace the complexity.
