Westland Cask Exchange 7 Bellwether
American Single Malt — Washington, USA, USA
Reviewed August 26, 2022 (edited August 28, 2022)This cXe is unexpected, unique, and delicious. The nose on this is almost reminiscent of red hot candies. There’s a real cinnamon tone that’s carried through the entire experience, from nose to finish. This has fried fruits, maltiness, and offers something unlike anything Westland has put out. It’s so good. Find it. Buy it. Finished: 08/26/2022 -
Westland Peat Week 2021 Single Cask #438
American Single Malt — Washington, USA
Reviewed August 26, 2022Of all the Peat Week releases I’ve been able to try, the 7th Annual Peat Week was one of my favorites. The idea of a twin release was enticing, offering a dual experience, or one of two options you could choose based on your own taste preferences. Ex-bourbon Cask doesn’t have the varied richness of the Ex-Rum Cask, but dispite the high proof (122.8!), seems more controlled and deliberate in its execution. The tones are more traditional, rooted in wood, vanilla, and baking spices. It’s genuinely incredible that one can get so much detail from this dram while the heat continues to rise through your chest and throat. It’s an absolute tragedy more people outside of WA never had the chance to try these releases. Westland never disappoints. Finished: 08/26/2022 -
Westland Peat Week 2021 Single Cask #6732
American Single Malt — Washington, USA
Reviewed August 26, 2022Of all the Peat Week releases I’ve been able to try, the 7th Annual Peat Week was one of my favorites. The idea of a twin release was enticing, offering a dual experience, or one of two options you could choose based on your own taste preferences. In this case, the ex-rum cask is deeply satisfying, elegantly rich, while undeniably boisterous, coming in at a whopping 121.6 proof (Of the two releases, this isn’t even the highest proof!) It’s creamy, offering tropical notes of melon, pineapple, and papaya. The finish is lush, lingering on the longer side. Unsurprisingly, this one heats up and finds its way deeply into your chest. You will remember it for a while after it’s gone. What a trip! Finished: 08/26/2022 -
Westland Peat Week Grand Finale
American Single Malt — Seattle, USA
Reviewed August 25, 2022 (edited August 26, 2022)This expression was just amazing. Westland has built years of experience with these releases and it shows. Peat Week Finale is a genuine culmination toward the legacy Westland Distillery has established, and the direction they’re heading. While I’m sad to see Peat Week annual releases fade into history, I’m eagerly awaiting Solum as the replacement. Thank you Westland, for taking us along for the ride while you honed your craft. -
Westland Lucky Envelope Cask Exchange 4
American Single Malt — Washington, USA
Reviewed August 25, 2022 (edited August 26, 2022)This Westland cXe expression is rich and creamy. It’s amazing how much body the beer aging adds to the final product. I’ve loved exploring these drams as they’ve been released. These are amazing gems if you can get them. -
